Hi there,

I will be getting my other car back on the road soon and fancy a bit of a road trip from Hertfordshire to a nice hotel somewhere in Wales.

Haven't got a huge amount of money to spend on the hotel (but would like a pool if poss) and will only have a weekend so can't spend too long in the car.

So, any hotel / road / route recommendations please from a few older, wiser PH folk?

Many thanks in advance! driving

Couple of suggestions.

You could go up to North Wales and do Evo Triangle/Snowdonia. A nice hotel we stayed in up there is: http://www.handpickedhotels.co.uk/hotels/Seiont-Ma...

Alternatively there is a lovely boutique hotel in Cardiff Bay, no pool but one of the rooms is a wet room with a fabulous hot tub. We, er, made plenty use of it(!) From Cardiff you can head North on the A470 and enjoy the very fine roads around the Brecon Beacons. Hotel: http://www.jolyons.co.uk/

Just a couple of ideas for you beer

I can thoroughly recommend this place in the Brecon Beacons - Nant Ddu Lodge

It has an indoor pool and a great restaurant lick. It also has great driving roads/scenery right outside!

For route suggestions a trawl through the Roads forum will yield lots of ideas. Also feel free to PM me for a Tomtom .itn file of a route I used earlier this year to get from Herts to the Brecon Beacons. Although the best roads are definitely in Wales itself, so if time is limited I'd suggest getting there as quickly as possible to allow more time there.

Excellent suggestions so far guys. Thanks.

Currently weighing up driving round the breacon beacons or going up to the Evo triangle...

(Thanks for the pointers to look in roads btw.. seems there is a good thread running.)

So far the Evo triangle is looking good as there is a really nice looking hotel there as well as the legendary roads! www.Bodidrishall.com

I have stayed at this hotel, it is very nice. They are a family owned, smallgroup of hotels and have a few others nearby that are cheaper. They have offers on that include evening meal (at Bodidris Hall) that are worth snapping up because it is serious gourmet st.
