Hi all...

I'm considering some sort of mental barely-road-legal little kitcar as my next 4-wheeler.. probably Fisher Fury, Phoenix, Westfield, MNR etc etc...

I was just wondering if there's any good links that I might not know of where I am likely to find a good selection of these..

obviously there's a few of each on here.. but are there specific owners club forums, for example, where all the best cars are bought & sold?

Thanks all..

Piers.

P.S. Feel free to add opinions on which one I should get, and a few gratuitous car-porn piccies...

Seeing as I'm the first to answer I'll be biased. Get a Dax Rush V8. biggrin

As requested, here's a picture.

Here's a video of the trip on the way to where that photo was taken.

Seriously though the classifieds here have a great selection. Locostbuilders have a good classifieds section too. Otherwise each owners club tends to have a forum and each of those will have a for sale section.

What sort of use would it get? Would you be using it mainly on the road or the track?

I would look at the classified right here on PH, and, of course, int he it car section of ebay. In fact I reckon ebay is where the people who are looking to sell quickly (which usually means cheaper) are most likely to be.

That Dax looks great, and sounds FANTASTIC... sold! wink
(what was it like for that sort of trip? a long drive!.. is it's weather gear etc ok for those sorts of miles?)

It'd be for (hopefully) quite a few trackdays each year, and some sunday blasts.. PH meets, that sort of thing. Maybe the odd 'Ring trip, although I'm thinking that might require a few creature comforts (some sort of weather protection?) that wouldn't be needed/wanted for the rest of it's use...

will have a look on locostbuilders & ebay.. thanks.

Mine is fully waterproof so no problem there. In fact we were driving in heavy rain for the whole trip to Dover but we got wetter walking down to the garage in the morning than we did in the car. You have to watch out for aquaplaning though.

It'd be worth doing a seach for bike engines verses car engines in this forum and having a read through for the pros and cons of each. If you are likely to want weather gear then in my opinion that steers you towards a car engine. The keys to a bike engined car are lack of weight and high revs. BECs can weigh in at under 500kg whereas mine is closer 700kg. I do have the torque to make it less of an issue though. smile

Random question Paul - what sort of gearbox have you got on there? The gearshifts almost sound like an auto.

good to know the Rush is waterproof...

I probably would want weather gear (I think..?), and would generally prefer a CEC I think, but a V8 is out of budget (Dax's seem quite pricey anyway)..

probably most likely to be a Zetec engined Westy or Fisher Fury I think...

Well it'd be a little inaccurate to say they all are. I've put a lot of work into getting it that way. hehe

Zetecs are good, as are Duratecs if you can get one in your price range. Some people have started using S2000 engines recently and one of those would probably be perfect, price dependant of course.

No it was the Laon Historique. It is a fantastic event in Northern France every June, 100 mile, a 500-car run through the French countryside on mainly closed roads, then the following day a "parade" which is like a 1-mile hillclimb then a 1 mile descent... not a race but it did get a bit.. ahem.. fast! Been sanitised a bit last year, with Police cars on course with you! They do wave you past and encourage you, but the you cannot exactly buzz them at 100 like the old days! Awesome fun

Obviously I'm biased but I would recommend a Yamaha R1 powered Slva Phoenix.

Purely by coincidence, mine's for sale!!
