Headlight glue? Unit has popped out

Hi All,

went for a night drive in the Sag a few days ago and noticed that my driver's side full beam was nicely lighting up the night sky, but not the road! Upon closer inspection I've noticed that the entire light until (ie. bulb, lens, wiring etc) has 'popped out' of the socket in the body and was pointing skywards.

Bonnet off this weekend and a bit of a fiddle have revealed that the lens units were seemingly bonded into their sockets in the bodywork with glue - not screws/bolts etc. Looks like a ring of glue was applied to the outer circumference of the unit and it was then pushed into place.

Can anyone please advise as to what glue I should use to perform the repair? I guess it needs to be very heat-resistant due to being in direct contact with the lens unit. Also any other tips on how best to access the unit in order to not botch it up, would be appreciated.

Sikaflex 221 is your friend but wear gloves and don't get all over yourself as it's a sod to get off. You can get it from ebay or from a boat chandlery, about £8.

Just to follow up on this ... bought some Sikaflex as recommended, and it worked a treat!
Fiddliest part was taking the whole light unit out, applying the glue to the unit, then sneaking it back into place past all the pipework and bodywork without applying glue all over the place in the meantime.
