Considering the good advice that I got previously (thank you all) I'm going to try again on a slightly different issue.
The ex has got it into her head that I'm going to run off with the kids to the Middle East (I joked about it once when I was drunk after she mentioned it first
), so is now laying down a rule that she has to have their passports before she will let me have access.
I'm digging my heels in and so is she, but I'm wondering if I'm losing sight of who is really losing out by continuing the disagreement. All I have to do is give her the bloody documents (that I have no intention of using anyway) and my kiddies can stop thinking I don't love them any more...
But then we have a signed agreement regarding access with no mention of requiring documents. She always was a paranoid f***...

This is the thin end of the wedge. If you agree to this her demands will just escalate...before you know it you'll only be allowed to see them barefoot and on a 100yard chain from her property. Obviously this is easy for me to say from here but you need to put your foot down, stick to the custody agreement and if she refuses to let you see them then speak to the lawyers about what happens next, its the expensive way to do this but ultimately it will be the sensible way.
PS Obviously try and have a rational chat to sort this out first before getting the lawyers/old bill involved.

It's a good idea. Problem is we don't really have any independent person that both of us would trust completely TBH. I'm just being bloody minded, I know I am, but if I play this game what others will I be forced to play in the future?
