I asked the Opie guys a couple of weeks ago about oil for my 3.0 M3, i got told the good stuff is Silkolene Pro-S 5w-40.
I think 10w-60 is the BMW recommended for the UK.
I suppose it dependends on whether it's going to see a track or not.

10/60 is only for the newer M cars (Post 2000)

I used 5/40 Silkolene in my M3 Evo

5w-40 or 10w-60 will both work.

I've used both extensively in mine, and had no issues with either.

my mechanic cannot get Silkolene, i am of course more than happy to purchase from Opie but he has suggested Fuchs 5w40 fully, as he says it is bascially the same oil as Fuchs own Silkolene and Fuchs is recommended by BMW, what do you guys reckon?

you can buy both Silkolene and Fuchs branded oil though...but sounds like they are the same thing

Opie oils have a very helpful website - if in doubt check it out.
