After a pant-wetting near miss at Spa I am investing in a dedicated set of wets for my 2007 997 GT3. Any opinions on the best rims and best wet tyres?

Good condition Toyo R888s are a popular option to use as wet track tyres. You can also cut more grooves into them too if you feel the need, depending if you've got any standing water or not.

Forgot to mention, I am running Pilot Sport Cups on OEM wheels. I use the car on the road and so would prob add the Wets to these and then get lightweight wheels for dry... if this sounds sensible?

My RS came with a set of BBS/Manthey Magnesium rims which weigh bugger all and looked quite nice. Unfortunately they were damaged and two of them beyond repair. If you are looking for maximum weight-loss I think them or the Dymag mag/carbon ones ones are the way to go.

I've been happy enough with my Michelin Pilot Sport 2 Tyres. I know of at least one 997 gt3 owner who ran these permanently once the original set of cup tyres were worn.

I use my gt3 all year round and will go with Michelin again when these are worn.

I don't rate the tread pattern of Corsas to clear standing water.

PS2's are probably the best all weather, Toyos clear standing water quite well and warm up reasonably quickly --- but can be noisey, PS Cups are dreadful and the inner shoulders wear very badly for road use with normal negative camber.

I use good Toyo R888's and take another car if it's really wet.

My 2p.

anyone know if there is a difference between Corsas with the continuous grooves and the ones without? Which, if any were, OE?

There are only two OE approved tyres for the 997GT3 - bespoke road versions of the Michelin Cups and Pirelli Corsas.

I've run both and, whilst the Cups are excellent in most conditions and best on track, the Corsas are better all round, especially in the wet, with twice the wear expectancy. The Corsas are 'N0' and have two continuous centre groves.

Michelin PS2 are much better in very wet conditions. Simple physics - they start with almost twice the tread depth...

P-Zero Corsa System is the way forward, I've just had a set delivered and will be getting them fitted as soon as.

Do they have to be road legal?

The Oz super HLTs are very good value but probably have to be import from tyrerack in US as I imagine UK prices won't be so good...
