XJ8 (X308) engine drive belt replacement intervals?

I'm probably not looking in the right place(s) but how often should they be replaced?

And what's the consequences of them not being replaced i.e. if it snaps? - mine looks fine but I'm suddenly aware I don't know when it was last done so am thinking of having it done as a precaution.

They would replace belt at 100k service

V plate XJ8 , drive belt ?? Do you mean Cam ? These are chains, unfortunately with plastic tensioners that fail so if not already done then get the whole kit of chains, tensioners and guides done for the latest spec. They will then last you 100K miles

No, I mean the alternator/fan/ancilliary belt.

100k seems about right - get the tensioner pulley bearing checked at the same time. If the belt fails you'll loose everything, pas, air con, charging and you'll quickly fry the engine too.

IIRC there is has been a design change to the tensioner and the belt, meaning that if you cant find the old style belt, you may have to change the tensioner also, my guy managed to get hold of one of the old style belts, changed at 83K along with the SC belt.

its not a big deal if it brakes, in the sense that it wont damage anything else like a cam belt braking would.

But it does mean you need to be recovered because the belt runs the water pump and it will over heat very quickly indeed without one.
