i know this is a really boring post, but having just been placed in pistonheads 'parc ferme' for abusing the scots, i thought my first post since being allowed out should be something very tame....

i managed 51.5 mpg on a trip up the m40 to bicester the other day.

i think that is remarkable considering the size of the car.

i promise my next post will be more controversial...

Is it possible to abuse the Scots? I mean, surely they deserve everything and anything that is said of them? It must all be fair comment, right?

Hmm, no smiley, no 'wink', all suggests you're actually being serious?

I had one of these while my E320cdi was in the repair shop and I was astonished how economical it was.

I normally get 35-37mpg in my e320, driving pretty quickly on A and B roads, the 220 was high 40's.

In this ridiculous politically correct world he probably just used the words "ginger" and "jock" in the same sentence as the word "Scot" .....

I don't know how to do smileys.

But that is probably explained by the fact that I live near the border!!!

Aye, but on the right or wrong side of the border is the question? wink

Anyway, back on topic I too have an e 220 cdi estate, I get 35mpg on average if I'm lucky although I do a lot of town driving, but even on long runs I've never seen more than 40mpg average on a trip, I do like a heavy right-footed overtake or two mind..

update: managed 53.1 mpg on the m4 into london. admittedly i was doing 60mph all the way in, but i was interested to see just how high it could go. mostly on cruise control too.

and i'm not getting drawn back into the scot debate. tuscan 'dirty' rat was the mod who put me in parc ferme. anyone know if he is or descended from the ginger persuasion?
