By the end of the article it is a 'Monara'nono Another case of quality reporting.

This happened in Aberdeen too. A top-end car(not supercar) was for a sale in a showroom, a buyer was found and an 18yo worker at the garage managed to write it off just before it was to be picked up. Not cool.

Dear dear..

I remember my fellow work-experience lad managed to drive an MX5 off the top of the ramp and pretty much destroy it. His excuse was he wanted to head what it sounded like and didnt know you couldnt start it while in gear...

Made me look quite good next to him!!!
When i worked in the garages, we had a drive on drive off brake tester and one day a daewoo went throw the barrier at the end of it biggrin

I also know a garage in Abdn who took advantage of my mate going offshore whilst he put his Evo in for service, and the owner decided to use it as his daily runner. He forgot that my mates girlfriend lived just round the corner and caught him out!

Garage is now under different ownership!

I took my Alfa GT 3.2 into Arnold Clark in Perth when they still had the Alfa franchise.

When I got it back later that day it'd done 24 miles and the fuel economy was in the teens.
It had only done 300 miles from new rolleyes.

Fine they needed to road test it but not 24 miles.

There's a lesson here folks and one that I've also learnt the hard way after entrusting a supplying dealer (Arnold Clark) with my P&J.

As such, whenever my car is in for repairs - and I don't care who the garage/dealership is - I will take a photograph of the recorded mileage before I hand over the keys and make it quite clear that the car is not to be driven without my prior consent. Should a road test be necessary, I expect it to be no more than five miles. If I'm not 100% satisfied, the dealer principle will be prying my hands from the monkey responsible for making me upset. I am a dealership’s worst nightmare, but only because most of the scumbags that pass for mechanics have been hoisted by their own petard.

The one exception I make is the mechanic I use in Insch - JD Motors. I trust them 110% and don't even mind if wither J or D go for a blast, because I know they both drive sympathetically and have respect for their customers cars.

WOW. Odd you should say that, a colleague has been having endless amount of trouble from the Arnold Clark and from more than one branch. First, he got a call few days after buying the car to tell him he needed a new starter. However, during this time, he already had it in the garage in Abz to diagnose the problem (they were going to change the altenator belt) and took ages to sort out. There is also problems with the windscreen (heating element) and they are now telling him that it can't be done under warranty as it is too expensive!

The car only came with 1 month warranty so do you think they are simply drawing it out as long as possible so that the month experies and thus he has no warranty? That's what my money is on. I'll also be telling him to check the milage before he puts it in for further work.

I think there's already a website dedicated to Arnold Clark.

In future I'd be happy enough to buy a NEW car from them but wouldn't touch anything used. The standard of preparation there seems to be getting worse all the time.

When we last took our car in for a service, we knew that the garage had used it because the person who had taken it home had programmed his address into the sat nav!!
