EFI warning light
Discussion
i have a connection on my rv8 ecu (14cux)for the efi warning light. i take it this connects straight to the lamp,my question is does this then connect to earth or a 12v feed from the ignition, in other words does the ecu "feed" the light or earth it to complete the circuit. also is the light fitted to warn of a system fault or to let you know everything is ok on start up? the reason i ask is because i was once told (rightly or wrongly) that you should always let the light go out before starting the engine after turning on the ignition...
thanks for the reply Steve, the problem i have is the engine is being fitted into a kit car i,am building so at the moment i have no dash connections. The wiring diagram i have for the efi system (probley the same one your looking at) shows a black/yellow wire from terminal 10 on the ecu going to a pick up point in the instrument binnacle C24 on the drawing but it does not show any point further than this. i suppose the next logical step will be to try and find a wiring diagram of the dash layout either of the TVR(don,t hold out much hope of this) from where the engine originated or a rover item for a veichle fitted with the hotwire system.
Next question then is do you need an EFI light?
The ECU before yours has none.
If I assume the light will flash some sort of time sequence to give an indication of what is wrong then it should be possible to switch the unit on with a sensor disconnected and force it into giving a fail sequence. You then just put a multimeter on the ECU pin and see if it is shorting to earth or going positive.

good idea mate, will try this when the rest of the engine wiring is done. got me thinking though like you say do i need the light at all? i have the rover diagnostic "box" the small black one with the LED read out already wired into the loom, so perhaps i don,t need the light after all! anyway i,ll get the rest of the bits fitted and see where we go from there. thanks for the info
