Where are all the good Windows desktop gadgets?

I'm forced to the conclusion that they're hiding somewhere. It can't possibly be the case, can it, that the only trustable source for Windows desktop gadgets is the glittering array of mediocrity that is the Windows Sidebar Gallery?
