Difference between Sports seats and standard seats on a 997?

i just wondered what the differences are between the standard and the sports seats on a 997? I have a c2s with, I believe, standard seats but they still seem a pretty snug fit to me - I imagine the sports seats would be designed to fit your body even more closely which has to make them difficult to fit into for the larger build?

I have looked on the Porsche website but it is not easy to tell the difference from the pictures. I guess I am hoping that mine actually has sports seats and it just wasn't mentioned when I bought it..... After all the spec did say the car had the logo embossed in the headrests which it hasn't so maybe they also missed a bit of spec off....!

sportseats dont have porsche crest(thats extra) you can tell if they are sport seats by the small wings by your shoulders whereas the std seats are straight also you get adaptive sport seats which are the above but fully electric

the back of sports seats is full plastic cradle.

standard seats leather wrap around .. and the plastic cradle is much smaller

The back of my seats are fully plastic and there is no crest in the headrests, it is the snugness of the fit and the way they grip which made me think they may be sports seats - but then again I have only drive this 997 so have no experience of the other seats!

sounds like you have sport seats ..

crests can appear on standard or sport seats, and they are an option .. like much else

Thanks for the feedback. Just had a closer look at the seats and they have a shaped plastic back which sort of flairs out at shoulder level (to provide more grip presumably) and then back in again. There is also a side air bag built into the seat, or at least a small panel which says airbag... There is a little strap at just above shoulder level, with a press stud, which you can thread the seat belt through.

When i bought the car (from Porsche Kendal) they did not mention it had sports seats so it would be nice if they were!

Did a bit more research on Autotrader and it seems they are indeed sports seats, not sure why I was so bothered but always nice to know what the actual spec of your car is, especially when you are paying throught the nose for it....!

Really like ours - thankful to the first owner for shelling out (adaptive too, so adjustable hip and rib support).

Mine are not the adaptive ones, just the standard sports seat but they do seem to very comfortable - I took the car up to Aberdeen a few weeks ago without too many aches and pains! I think they are only about £300 as an option so seem like a good thing to go for if buying new.

I would not have thought so as I imagine it is pressed into the leather before it is stretched over the seat.

997 and Cayman Sports seats do not have the leather strap, that is for the Boxster. I have owned one of each (all with Sports seats) and only the Boxster has the strap - I have checked my photos.
The reason why they were not on the description from the OPC is because the option list in the advert is driven from the original factory spec.

Mine definitely has the little straps on the side of the seat to feed the seat belt through and I am 99% sure they are sports seats, unless the standard seats were changed for the 07 model? Looking at pictures on Autotrader, the standard seat seems to be leather all round whereas mine have the grey plastic shell and shaping at shoulder level.

Cheers, mine are definitely the sports seats. They have the seatbelt straps(!)and also have a small elasticated pocket on the back for storing stuff, maps etc presumably. I understand what you are saying about the info the OPC use to make up the advert, the car was a demo plus 1 owner and I understand that sports seats only cost c£300 as an extra extra so surely nobody would bother to retrofit them?

As an aside, when I was looking for a car I spoke to numerous OPC's about advertised cars and quite a few had bits of spec incorrecly listed, both stuff that was missing and indeed things which the cars did not have.

I had Sports Seats Plus (sports seats with the electric adjustment for shoulders and hips) and they were the nuts, so incredibly comfy and supportive, looked really cool, and you could set one of the memory presets to a 'tight squeeze' and then when you hit a few swisty roads, stick it in sports mode and make the seats squeeze you in & it made the car feel all sporty
