Ted,

Just an idea but it seems there are quite a few people browsing and posting from mobiles, pda's and the like.

Perhaps a cut down version of the Gassing station might be of use, for example just a white screen with black text and an advert optimised for mobile users. There'd be no need for any of the fancy features such as profiles or images just plain text.

Would save on BW costs for GPRS users as well.

Would also be cool if it were possible to download the days motoring storys in the morning when the PDA is synched (something like Avantgo)

Anyway, good stuff with the site.

Richard.

I logged on to PH from my mobile the other day in the hope that I could get on the forums.
What a relief it was to my wallet that I couldnt!

I'll give it some thought. I did do a WAP version of the Oily Pages once.

Ted,

Any further thoughts or progress on an Avantgo feed for Pistonheads? I've recently started working at a company that has no Internet access(!) so I have to get my daily news fix via Avantgo on my Palm. It would be brilliant to catch up on the PH news in the same way.

Seeing as I have a vested interest in this enhancement, I'd like to offer my services as a programmer. I don't know what database you use, or what format Avantgo uses (I guess it's some form of HTML or XML), but I am willing to get out there and learn anything that's needed.

B.

I'm working on some changes now that should pan out into some of the items discussed here. All will be revealed in a few weeks...

probably. will be looking at a pda skin for it. Does Blackberry behave like a PDA? I'm not familiar with it.

I'll check with the guy in my office that deals with them. As far as I understand it they just pull emails down off a server we have located in the office.

Nope, IIRC its purely an email dohickey. (Thats as technical as I get).

I've managed to surf and post with an ipaq and GPRS phone no problem. Back in the days of being a newbie here, I bust my diff cradle, and sent a shout for help from these as I was in a house that had lost all power due to the river at the bottom of the garden diverting itself through Mum's kitchen..

Blackberry does have a www browser built into it (www.blackberry.com/products/service/web.shtml) and I can happily read stuff like slashdot etc from it (when in dull meetings). But PH & forums just don't work properly.

That said I'm not sure if everybodies can as at work we are often running future versions of handhelds & phone software etc before selling it to customers.

I'll see if I can ask some of the techie 'devices' desiger people this week....
