"Crossposting" clarification

If there's something that's specialised enough to be posted in a particular subforum, but would appeal to a larger audience, such as that bike-tricking guy in Edinburgh, the advice in the past has been to post it in the subforum (Pedal Power in that case) and then link to it in the Lounge.

So I did that last night for a video I posted in the Music section, and this morning the Lounge thread has gone.

Is that no longer the case, then?

Don't be antagonistic - just after an idea about what's the "form" or not.

Generally cross-posting is treated the same as reposting, as it tends to split one interesting thread into two shorter ones which gets confusing very quickly.

In the case of general "look at this" threads then we normally close them and link to the original, especially if the two are both running simultaneously.

We tend to make an exception if someone has asked a question in one of the smaller forums and not received a satisfactory answer, as re-asking the question in a bigger forum is an understandable and useful thing to do in these circumstances.
