How to waste money in Public sector 2008/9.....
Discussion
The banks are being bailed out to a small amount and have to pay it back, yet they are getting all the flack, but lets see if we can redress the balance with the s
t dodging Government and the public sector so here goes:
Sickies, now in the private sector sickies are not always avoidable but you can be damn sure that we dont get away with taking the piss, ergo items 1 and 2:
Council sickies
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1195802/Co...
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/scotland/...
£4billion
NHS illness 45000 workers ill per day
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/60491...
£1.7billion
Gadgets, in the private sector, if we build a gadget you can be damn sure it works, comes in on budget and makes move or is an improvement, not so in the public sector:
NHS £13 billion computer system failure (is it online yet)?
http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2009/jul/09/nhs-...
Handing over money, Why would you give money away? do you get more back? well not in Winkys case:
Winky handin over £16 billion in 2008
http://www.taxpayersalliance.com/media/2009/09/dai...
Masses of debt for everyone thanks to the government that needs no intro.
Really not going to say anything about this one: £50000 per person in debt
http://www.taxpayersalliance.com/research/2009/09/...
Lets steal from the private sector and give to the poor eh... whats that you misplaced some pocket change... no issue the taxpayers and the city have loads more:
£101 Billion of misspending on themselves in 2008
http://www.harriman-house.com/pages/book.htm?BookC...
Anyone else like to go on?
Someone find something about the pension blackhole in the public sector...
I could go on about that t
t that is wanting to make the banks (retail) give up their bonus culture and give it to the poor (that is right) even though the retail banks dont make that much money in a recession... I wonder why.... feckless moron
Im done today and its been a nasty day at work, thats my excuse!!

I know of a woman in the public sector (inland revenue) who has had more time off than actually working there
1 year off for maternity
2 years off due to RSI
went back
another year off on maternity
We worked out she has only worked there for about 5 months yet is on full pay the whole time
But I guess when you're spending other peoples money and have no obligation to make any, you can piss it up the wall without a care in the world eh?
They could do with experience of the private sector to give them a reality check

I know it's pennies compared to other things, but recently, this outlay of £300K has 12 users a day, according to a survey.
Do not google the story behind it, it will turn your blood into dry steam :O

another year off on maternity

And, of all depts, HMRC aggresively weeds people out. They're in the process of reducing staff by 25,000.

To be fair, the only difference between that and a private sector IT project fNHS £13 billion computer system failure (is it online yet)?

My wife worked for HMRC and now works for another government dept - they don't even get maternity pay at all unless they've worked there 12mths so your assertion that she's only actually worked 5mths can't be correct. And they certainly don't get 12mths on full pay. In fact none of it is on full pay, but the first so many weeks is made up with SMP.
Don't get me wrong - the civil service has been good for my wife but she's been *very* lucky to have hung in there and has moved from department to department and town to town as offices around us have closed down. They treat many employees very badly indeed.

Might be even worse than that...................http://burningourmoney.blogspot.com/2009/10/latest...

The report by the Legatum Institute, a think tank based in London, crowns Finland in first place, the US 9th, with Britain lagging behind in 12th.
The survey of 104 countries measures not only wealth but “general well being” echoing a desire expressed by David Cameron, the Tory leader, for an index that covers more than simply the value of Gross Domestic Product.
Mediocre scores for education, health, domestic security, and levels of personal freedom because of excessive regulation drag down the UK’s overall performance.
Dr William Inboden, senior vice president of the Institute who used to work for George W Bush at the White House, said: “Despite the recession, the UK continues to perform well on a number of important economic indicators. But beyond the positive headlines the UK is burdened by sluggish performance in its educational institutions, its domestic security, its health outcomes, and even citizens’ views of how free they are to create the life they would like to have.
“While Gross domestic Product remains the most widely used measure of a nation’s progress there is a growing consensus that better measures are needed.

Japan in 16th? seriously surprised by that. I dont believe GDP is relevant nowdays, its like saying, 'Yea iv got 2 grand in the bank, but a 200 hundred grand overdraft', ie us the UK.
Was watching that Top gear episode on sunday where captain slow and hamster chase clarkson across japan.
have you seen how chuffing clean the place is!!!! My god there isnt a scrap of rubbish anywhere, looks like Switzerland, how do they do it and yet we cant?.

Don't be surprised, it's been going on for years. This government has made it far worse, having added about 500,000 to the payroll over the last few years (funded by the private sector of course). And just think of the waste by councils, including road congestion-creating schemes. Oh, and I just thought of the uncontrolled immigration. The plan I believe is to change the UK - all part of the Labour socialist plan of course.

AFAIK you MUST go oversees at some point in government office. You have a choice where but not much else.
You dont pick a job and stick with it you are forced to move around which will innevitably mean skills are lost in key departments. Its utterly ridiculous and we pay for it.
The Gov should try cutting offices which deal with spurious public needs and problems that are not even ours in the first place such as problems immigrants bring with them. They are thier problems not ours.
Tehy should cut 250,000 people IMHO
