Replacement Wheels & Tyres for Fast Road and/or Track

As the title suggests I want to replace the wheels and tyres on my M400 as they are flaking and previously been kerbed (not by me ). Also the rear rim protrudes from the tyre as there is no rim protection and it looks quite wrong.

I have a Blue car and want to stick with Silver alloys (so sorry no Black/Grey or Blue alloys please). I have looked at previous threads where the limited search function has allowed but would appreciate views from other owners on the manufacturer/model/price (and any other details) of wheels that will be direct replacements. Preferably with photos and confirmation of weight but I am happy to investigate myself. Whilst I want them to look good they also need to be functional so I don't want to stick some heavy bling wheels on - they must be relatively light weight and strong.

I quite like the looks of some HRE's I have seen but they are around £1k/corner which even I find tad expensive but may just bite the bullet and order (anyone in the trade can get me a deal?)

Also any comments on good tyres which will be used for dry weather and fast road and maybe track (although I may refurb the current alloys and put some dedicated track days tyres on them). Currently looking at Yokohama A048R or Toyo R888 or even Goodyear F1's.

Any comments or suggestions greatly appreciated.

the 3r/m400 rims are prone to cracking, you might want to ditch them

lots of options for rims out there - i went for a set of compomotives and i love em

What type of Compomotives are they and where from/price etc? I had a set of SSR's but the polished rims quickly corroded so I wasn't too impressed but nice and strong/light weight.

I have the original wheels to experiment with but I want a replacement set that look similar or better than the originals. Now I appreciated that my M400 was unusual in that it had silver wheels but personally I think they suit the blue car better than the dark grey.....and hence the bloody original request

Had my wheels powder coated and they look great. Also the finish is much harder and more durable than paint so will last.

I had Yoko 048R's on mine and they were very poor for wear, only lasted about 3,000 miles and wore uneven. Now fitted Toyo R888's and they are first class, they also have a better side wall which protects the rims more. Have done 4,000 miles on them with very little wear (although 2,800 mile's were a round trip through France to Monaco)and they tend to stick to the road better than the Yoko's, especially in wet/damp conditions.
Also gone one size up on the rears to 275/35/18 which adds to protecting the rims.

If you want Toyo 888's go to camskill.co.uk as price is same as the the tyre distributors buy them for.

If you are wanting some nice lightweight alloys, you will be looking at spending 4k+, you can get your existing rims refurbed for around £300 and they will look like new again, although they are quite heavy alloys.
The rim protection depends on the tyres, i have Toyo R888 and they do not offer rim protection, but Eagle F1 Astmetric and Michelin PS2 offer good rim protection and perform well.
You can get a full set of eagle F1 Asymetric for £565 or the PS2 for £700 from www.tyres-online.co.uk.
So it could cost you less than 1k for the job lot, alloys like new again and brand new high performance tyres that offer good rim protection.
Only reason i use R888 is because my car is in Cyprus and rain is not really an issue, the R888 are very noisy, lack in ride comfort, wear very fast but they grip like hell. For the UK I like the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymetric for good all rounders.
Mine were scuffed to hell and all the laquer off the polished rims were flaking, got them fixed and powder coated in black chrome with Tyres fitted and balanced for £300.
If money is an issue then you get the best results for the money with refurbishment, if money is not an issue then get some Dynamags like PeterGuk, carbon fibre rims with magnesium spokes, they weight next to nothing look great but cost about 7k and i would not like to curb one of those.

The Compomotives shown on Gadgeroonie's car can be bought in Silver direct from Compomotive.

I bought them in grey so no silver photos. Silver pictures on supplier site.

they are called MO's a motorsport rim, i have always fitted them to my cars

the toyo proxies come in various different versions - the one to get is the T1-S

i am very pleased with them, they felt a bit wierd till worn in - now the cornering is much more impressive than the old bridgestones car felt a bit snatchy before they were fitted, now its got great feedback and gentle breakaway has really given me a lot more confidence in the car


Mike, i will swap the rims for your turbo's ;0)

I think that excellent piece of photoshop work , proves beyong all doubt that silver alloys suit your colour car, but as to whether they look better than the standard rims in silver i am not so sure, they look nice, just not sure if it is a massive improvement. I saw some really nice Brabus ones on Bravs car, see if i can find the pics off the Noble forums, i think he mentioned a model number for the alloys also, so if i can find the post should be able to do a web serach for some.

Well I can buy the Compomotives cheaper from Reyland than I can from Compomotive direct and the saving is 15% so quite significant - go figure .

Will see if Mike can get me a deal on the HRE's before deciding.

These will be for dry road and occasional track use so will be putting some premium tyres on but can't make up my mind as there are so many to choose from and each review or comment are different. Michelin PS Cup and Toyo R888's fair well but as the car will do more hours/miles on the road I am not convinced going for a pure track day tyre is the best option and maybe a high performance road tyre like the Michelin PS - do may of you have "track" days tyres on the car for normal road use and any comments?

Not sure if I want the hassle of swapping wheels each time I do a track day but maybe it will be better if I do.

The reason for replacing is that the current alloys need refurbishing and I have heard that some of the original Noble alloys have cracked and/or failed so want a better/safer track day option. I will try and get the ones on the car tested before wasting money on refurbishing them and if alright maybe wrap them in the more road based tyres like the Michelin PS - if they are good enough for my Porsche then they should be fine for the Nob. That would probably make up my mind to put the Michelin PS Cups on the new alloys but I need to decide before I take them off....suppose I could try them and replace if I don't like them.

Anyone had any experience with the Michelin rubber on their Nob
