Exhausts again
Discussion
I called Rapid GB the other week to get a quote on a cat- back exhaust for a VZ Monaro, but It was listed at £2100.00 without the re-map which was listed at £405.00.
I believe Monkfish list their exhaust and the re-map at under £2ooo.oo.
Magnaflow cat-backs I think are in the region of £7oo.oo as a fit it yourself, and obviously no re-map. This system is for the GTO so maybe it will not fit without the usual screems of why the F*** did I bother!!!!!
The question is who has got what and are you a bit disappointed with it, or maybe even happy with your choice...
Either way its a lot of money these days so its got to be the right choice.

I've got the Wortec cat back and remap and I'm very happy with it. It was already fitted when I purchased the car and it's the very old system. No electronic switch, no plates blocking off the silencers, switching from quiet to loud involves getting it up, removing the back boxes and putting straight through pipes on. Akward if you don't have the tools/ramps etc.
If I had the choice and could do it all over again, I thing I would go with the electronic switching system just for convenience.
Costs prohibiting of course.
I have heard some other systems at various meets and it's amazing how each car sounds totally different. It may be worth getting along to a meet if there's one near you, having a chat with the guys and girls and getting them to rev up their motors. There are cheaper options out there if you can be bothered to look into it. Happy shopping.

I've had the standard Sport pack from the Fish for about 3 weeks and it is awesome. It's been on loud ever since and sounds bloody loud
The same applies for me - I got the silencers if I want to fit them but I wouldn't dream of doing that. The electric switching is not availble on the first cv8 models with the exhaust on the left side only.

Firstly I totally agree with you that exhausts for these cars are silly money over here. Did Rapid say which exhaust you would be getting for that money? If it was a Difilippo they are supposedly the mutts nuts (ask Ringram)and possibly worth the extra money.I believe Monkfish list their exhaust and the re-map at under £2ooo.oo.

I can't see why a Magnaflow Cat Back won't fit and from past experience their stuff is pretty good.
Lastly, you could go custom. That's what I did.
Mine cost more than £600, fully breakdown in this thread

Rapid supply the DiFillipo from Australia, hence the cost, but they are very good systems and many swear by them. I have one coming for my ute, bought for performance direct from DF.I believe Monkfish list their exhaust and the re-map at under £2ooo.oo.

The wortec systems are well designed and produced in the UK, hence the cost difference. They are different sounding systems and exhaust sound is very subjective. I have one on my GTS and it sounds just like a nascar at WOT. Lovely.
There is a company in Newcastle AAS, who will make a custom system, including headers and I have heard at very competitive prices.
There you go. Pick and choose and enjoy.
Give Magic a call on his Monaro cat back. All his kit is A1 and mint.

I had a Wortec on mine but changed it for a Difilippo after about a year due to a change in direction. Wortec is noisy but only 2.5 inch. Difilippo is 3 inch and quieter. If you want build for big power (600 whp+) go with the latter.

I considered getting an exhaust made up, but I want an exhaust that has been designed by someone who has tested the system out. I hate the thought of putting on a system which might sound OK but makes the car lose power.
I have been sitting on the fence for a while now as funds are tight! however I hope it will be sorted early next year.

Hi, I went down the magnaflow cat back route (built for the GTO) for my VXR and only required minor bending of the rear silencer hangers via some gentle heating with a blow tourch and re-use of the original front gasket (before x pipe). Despite the lack of mid silencers and much reduced rear silencer size the sound was quite nice and bassy but not intrusive at all on the motorway but popped nicely on the overrun. Recently I added wortec headers (thanks Tony) and the volume has increased considerably, the sound is a lot more raw and aggressive but at motorway speed is similar if not a little quieter. If you want I could send through a sound clip with the magnaflow cat back?

Hi John, I notice from your profile that you're from the North East. I can highly recommend AAS up in Newcastle, they actually specialise in American cars but over the last few years have done a lot of work on our cars. In fact they also do performance mods and engine work. They are very familiar with the LS engines and do excellent quality stainless exhausts built to your specs. You can even get systems made up in titanium if you're feeling flush! Why not give them a call or pop in and check out their set-up?

I was at AAS not so long ago and bought an oil filter and some Royal Purple oil, the guy who sold the stuff seemed decent enough so I will keep the very much in mind.
Im glad the Magnaflow system fits the Monaro without too much messing about that may be the way forward.
thanks again Guys...
