I think the navy should kill the fkers and sink their boats. Parasites of the seas.

Captain Dale Dye's (Col. Sink from Band of Brothers) blog entry and thoughts about the pirates during a brief encounter with the US Navy earlier this year (last paragraph or two is good)

Whilst I completely agree with you Tonker, I would love to see the Royal Navy use a bit of good old 'Gun Boat Diplomacy', get the olde agers out of wherever they are being held captive and then shell the feckers back to the stone age (or whatever age that came before that as I believe Somalia is a little 'rural' as it is).

These 'pirates' pose a huge problem to international shipping and should be dealt with accordingly. I say wipe them out, all of them.

Harsh? Of course.

Deserved? Definitely.

Aye, you are probably right. I expect I wouldn't make a very good war mongerer!

Isn't Somalia a country that doesn't really have a government? The issue with piracy is now out of hand and needs to be dealt with.

Another solution would be to 'encourage' the Russians or Israelis to sort the problem out? They both don't give a crap what other nations think and are fairly effective at wiping out small countries.

could we not pull out of Afghanistan and invade Somalia, kill the lot of em and turn it into a great big DisneyLand Style resort. Nice weather, lots of beaches. Perfect. And it may be a war we could actually win!

But they don't all wear eyepatches and big hoop earrings. So telling them apart from ordinary fishermen/coastal traders is difficult. So either you stop and search every boat (impossible given the area of sea) or you blow up every boat (which would be unpopular with all the friendly local govts) or you sort out the problem on land (difficult) or you set up some kind of convoy system and discourage numpties like these two from going anywhere near (possible as a voluntary system but hard to make compulsory).

If it were easy to solve by violence, that would have been done by now.

My immediate thoughts too.

These pirates are ex fishermen desperate to improve their lot in a lawless country. They see wealth and riches cruising off their coast and see it as a way of getting a leg up, from what I saw they are not prone to mindless violence.
Stopping it is going to require everything we take for granted in this country to happen in Somalia

Time for the return of Q-ships? If the "fisherman" pulls out an AK or RPG, blow him straight to mars. Job done.

A customer of mine is on the Auxilary Fleet and was telling me the other day they've even begun attacking them. Nutters.

What about sending in undercover tankers (or whatever) armed to the teeth and the moment the pirate bds attack, blow them sky fking high.

I think that's an issue when arriving in foreign ports more than on the high seas.

Ok, so the issue is getting firearms onto a boat. I wonder if it would be best to sail out of another African port further round the coast? I wonder how easily it is to get large calibre firearms in Tanzania?

Yeah I don't see that as being a problem. Get some of those nice chaps in the SBS to pilot innocent looking sailboats through Somali waters, armed to the fking teeth.

Job done I say.

And sell the movie rights.
