Does anyone have one of these?

If you do and it is red, then why aren't you selling it?

I have been looking for the past few months for an unmodified one in good condition, with red as my first choice and grey second.
Instead, all I see are lots of silver ones(and some have been priced stupidly high).

(Yes I do check the MLR every day)

If anyone spots one for sale that is not on autotrader, MLR or here, then please let me know.

Your problem is probably compounded by looking for a stock one. These cars are stupidly easy to modify and few can resist the temptation of adding 75 bhp ish plus for a couple of grand. The MRs are also now at least 4 years old, so have been out of warranty for more than a year - even more reason to lightly modify them.

What puts you off buying a modified version? Done correctly it can save you a lot of money when you eventually decide you want more power (everyone does!).

Would you not also consider a red IX, they are slightly better cars than the VIII MRs and don't look a whole lot different?

The IX is out of my price range.

I don't plan to mod the car in the future, as that's not my thing. I will accept a car with slight mods if I have to.

Busted boxedin.

I didn't take any pictures on Saturday night, I don't think anyone did (nothing dodgy happened). Not even a pic of your lovely little Alfie.

Sorry readers, this was an MR related but non forum thing.

What's your approximate budget, out of interest?

Up to £13k.
I am quite happy to get an FQ, but again I have the standard issue.

FQs are considered to be standard cars as they are sold as is from the showroom with a warranty? They also tend to attract a premium over imported JDM VIII MRs.

TBH, I think you'll struggle to get a decent MR FQ for that money. Prices dropped considerably at the beginning of the year as everyone crapped themselves about running costs and fuel prices during the deepest part of the recession. Since then prices have firmed up a little and are back to what you'd expect on the Evo's normal depreciation curve.

If you believe what he posted, a member just traded in a 55 plate IX FQ-340 with 30K on the clock for £14,200, so I'd be surprised if you could pick up a similar decent VIII MR FQ for much less than that in a private sale, let alone from a dealer.

Having said that, have you seen this one?

Looks cheap, could well be a CAT D, but seems to fit your criteria. The mods are very light and would be cheap and easy to remove to put back to standard. You might even make money on them as there's a thriving market for secondhand Evo parts.

This one looks reasonably standard apart from the wheels and he might take an offer. The wheels are an easy fix (the standard MR wheels come up for sale every now and again and you can pick them up second hand for around £500).

I take it you're aware of the tell-tale signs of an MR (roof ridges, matt back light backing, chasis code, etc)? There have been cases of people passing off non-MR cars as MRs, before now.

I emailed the guy with the first one yesterday, but have not yet had a reply.

The second has horrid wheels, but is a possibility.

I know some details about the MR and do have a friend who owns one, who is helping me search.

Thank you.

Have you looked on Autotrader lately? I guess not! There are heaps of standard VIII MR's and IX FQ'S in red and grey within your budget on there.
Personally, IX is the better choice, that rear defuser looks trick!

P.S - I don't know if you are aware, but HKS products are unavoidable! They were fitted as standard on most of these models....

VIII MR FQ-300 and IX FQ-300 don't have the HKS hard-pipes and exhaust as standard (unlike the higher FQ model numbers). Those two models are pretty much as they left the factory in Japan, the only HKS part might be the panel filter, unless they've been added after they left the showroom by their owners.

Grey imports are even less likely to have the HKS parts, as the stock models had no HKS parts on them at all.

Most of the very few MR's listed are not even MR's.

See if you can find one that's classed as PLG on the V5.
That attracts a "reasonable" (well it's all relative) VED rate of £190 and not the £400 odd that the emissions dictate biggrin

The market is not that slow, cars have been selling before I could view.
I did spot the Extreme car, nice but out of the budget that I had already forced up.

Anyway, getting a car inspected at TSL on Friday.
