Things you couldn't do before 1970......

You couldn't:

Send an email
there were no personal electronic calculators..
CD-roms? They hadnt eve invented the floppy disk yet...
ethernet networking didnt exist...
The Internet didnt exist.... obviously
Google? WTF does that mean?
What the F**k does WTF mean?
There were no personal computers of any kind...
Digital cameras didnt exist...
there was no form of personal music player (walkman/iPod etc)...
There were no mobile phones...
LCD displays were non existant...
there were no micro-processors....
GPS didnt exist..... even for the military
Send a text? You couldnt even leave a Post It note...
Video recorders were non existant in the UK (but had been invented)




What can you think of thats common place now (or even no longer used as the technology has been superceeded) that simply wasnt yet available in 1970?

Stuff thats 'come & gone' also:

Modems (does anyone still do dial-up?)
Facsimilie machines
recording tape of all kinds
camera film (well, just about)

Pedantic note: LCD technology was first produced in 1968, after work at the University of Hull.

i don't think 39years to be exactly 'quick' given that much of the tech. for a lot of that list would've existed in some early form in research/defence applications.

No databases ! Result. Everything on paper - in massive filing cabinets.

No speedcameras - proper coppers (ie more than 5ft in stacked heels) who still believed in a sporting chance.

No Ecu chips in cars, everything simple to fix (mind you it needed to be given how unreliable most cars were - when was the last time you de-coked an engine)

Razors only had one blade - practically the stone age.

I suspect though medical technology is the biggest advance - especially scanning diagnosis.

yes, many companies still use them where contracts are exchanged and signatures needed. Everyone else though has just about given up on them. My daughter asked me recently "whats a fax machine"....? Never seen one.
