Gatwick Hotels
Discussion
I'm flying out of Gatwick next year with a 7am-ish check in. Seeing as I'll be coming from oop north I'll need a hotel the night before. Couple of question really as I don't know the area or the airport at all.
Are the north and south terminals far apart as the airport website seems to have different hotels for different terminals?
How good are the national train links? Unsure whether to drive and find parking or just make it easy and get a train down (if there are easy trains from Manchester).

The north and south terminals are a couple of minutes driving apart. I drove down for a holiday earlier this month and found that paying for a hotel which included 8 days parking worked out cheaper than a train/hotel combo in the end. I stayed at the Russ Hill hotel which usually comes up very cheaply in most searches but it is a fair distance to the airport and the hotel itself is very average.

You can can get 1 or 2 weeks parking usually (plus the night you actually arrive) so 8 or 15 days + a night in the hotel. The cheapest way to book them is online in advance through somewhere like www.holidayextras.co.uk

We did the overnight + Car the evening before earlier this year. Stayed at the Hilton, which was not that expensive, car park is on airport and walk straight to South Terminal.
Monorail between terminal is free, runs every few minutes, and you can take the luggage trolley on to it. Takes no more than 4 minutes.

Why not drive down overnight and hop on the plane...?
No traffic problems....
If not, make very, very sure you've left enough time to get there.
And use M6 > M40 instead of M1, to avoid the road works on the M25. If anything happens there (and it does) you can find a queue from the M1 to the M40.

I've used this one several times - although not recently http://www.ifieldcourt.com/
Don't really fancy driving through the night before an 8 hour flight, want to enjoy it!
Thought about flying but having to check in for this flight at 7am would either mean a ridiculously early flight or sitting in the airport overnight.
We're going in september but i'm being super organised!

I always stay overnight beforehand when flying out of Gatwick. It's just easier and less stress than fannying about trying to get there on the morning of your flight. Train in and out of London or the M25 hell hole isn't work the risk.
I've stayed at the Crowne Plaza and the Holiday Inn. Parked at both for the duration of holiday aswell.
Holiday Inn moved the car to what worryingly looked like grass verges and wasteground around the car park-proper but to be fair, it came back without a mark on it
Crowne Plaza moved the car around their own car park. Again, no problems.
Both charged for a courtesy bus - £1.50 each eay IINM - but that's no real hardship.
The Holiday Inn was perfectly acceptable, closer to the airport and cheaper. We got preferential rates as the OH is in the industry but if you book early enough you should get a good deal.

I flew down last month all the way from Orkney. We booked the Sofitel online with holiday extras and got a really good rate - room, dinner and two lounge vouchers for the airport lounge next day for £122. Hotel is just a walk from the North terminal and was 5 star. The link between North and South is by bus whilst they repair the monorail - takes about 5-10 minutes to get from one to the other. Best mattress I've ever slept on in any hotel!Gassing Station | Holidays & Travel | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
