I really am bewildered by the crap service we often get these days.

Two examples:-

I phoned Orxxxge to top up the mobile my Mum uses for her as she had just come out of surgery and was staying with us.
Quite simple you would think.

The automated call service didn't work so I got transferred on the 3rd attempt. I spoke to a lady with such a strong accent that I had trouble understanding her so had to politely ask her to repeat what she had said ......she hung up rolleyes

Adxxxxl Insurance wanted £380 to take a car off my policy a couple of years ago.

I don't think the "Peter Smith" chap at their Indian call centre knew anything other than reading from a crib sheet

One car less on a policy is reduced risk, it's not rocket science!

I had to make around 10 more calls and get the number of a UK dept and eventually got a partial refund in my favour, not theirs!

These are by no means really extreme examples but none the less they are quite annoying and the Admxxxl one took weeks & lots of calls to sort out.

Make this a thread to vent your incredible experiences with customer service depts!

It's not intended to be a name and shame thread!

Ring up virgin. Ask them something that is not on their crib sheet, or something they have heard of, they more than often hang up.

Nothing , and I mean nothing annoys me more than some at a call center hanging up on me. Its so easy for them to do it, and it seems to be a common issue.

Racist wink
The 1st lady at the call centre could have been from newcastle wink

But she wasn't.

I don't wish to come across that way but the use of Indian call centres where staff have poor english to service UK accounts is probably not the best of ideas.

But it's probably cheap so it's OK wink

UK call centres don't tend to have the language barrier issues but can be just as bad for their customer service.

And for that reason alone, should I be unfortunate to establish that a service provider/service is using offshore call centres, my contract is never renewed.

Whilst we are on this topic can anyone please tell me if directline car insurance have british call centres?

The reason I ask is I found a smashing quote with them, thanks.

I think they use "UK only call centres" on their adverts.

I wonder if that means that their office in Bangalor is called UK?

I certainly find them easy to deal with (yes, they have UK call centres).

Yep, we do the same. We also write to the head office to explain that's why we won't be continuing with them as well.
