M/Taimar Fuel Cap Question
Discussion
Folks,
I'm slowly stripping down my Taimar project (read when the domestic management is not around as I'm suppose to be on decorating duties right now).
I have hit an issue with removal of the fuel filler neck. The previous owner has fitted two extra vent tubes to the left had side of the filler neck which is stopping me removing the neck & filler cap out of the body. They have been soldered on so can't just twist them off.
Question is can the fuel cap be separated from the filler neck and obviously how do you do it??
Second question is are there any new caps available as I assume that TVR bought in caps from an external source. Would consider getting mine re-chromed if anyone can recommend a good plater down here in the South??
Regards

All of the filler caps I've seen on Ms are the hinging kind. As far as I know, they all operate on the same principle. The hinge pin is usually a steel roll pin.
Spray penetrating oil in the hole,
let it stew for a while as the dis-similar metals will surely have caused corrosion by now,
find an appropriately sized hardened punch (or cut off the right diameter nail)
and drift out the roll pin.

You first need to remove the rubber body shell seal. If I remember correctly once the clip for the rubber filler tube is undone and the filler tube slid down you can remove the seal from below. You will then see a slot in the body that allows the tubes to be removed. Then rotate it and lift it so you get the tube on one side out then rotate it again to get the other out.
I hope that makes sense.

Thanks for the replies.
Have tried all in vain over the past week.
Looks like the filler neck must have been separated from the cap to carry out the installation of the extra vent pipes as they are at the same height as the factory original, so trying to turn the neck and extract each one from the factory "slot" in the body is not possible as the extra vent tube tries to take a nice half in deep grove out of the bodywork.

Thanks for the suggestion.
I've managed to extract it now by bending back the factory fitted vent pipe, which allowed sufficient access to hack saw off the previous owners "handy work"
Still curious to know what the source of the filler cap was though if anyone knows.
It looks very Jag like to me........
