Hi Chaps,

I had a fairly successful weekend getting some hollow wall anachors into my wall, however I noticed a fairly high failure rate.

Screws:
http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav.jsp?action=detai...

Particually points of failure was getting the anchor to bite into the plasterboard itself. (New build= cheap plasterboars frown)

I have searched on here, and someone mentioned using prongs to stop the anchor spinging when tighting the screw- I tried using a similar menthod but it often didnt help!

Would a tool like this help?

I have another bracket to put up this week, but this time I have less space for botched anchors!

Cheers in advance,
RR.

I wouldn't say your fittings were suitable for plasterboard.

If I couldn't drill into the timberwork behind, I'd use gravity or spring toggles:

The tool you linked to is pretty good(essential imo), it will pull the fixings up nice and tight and You shouldn't get any failures(I presume they are spinning in the hole). The fixings you are using are the best you can get for plasterboard. I fix into plasterboard nearly on a daily basis and those screws are better than any other style/type out there, albeit not the best quality if they are from b&q.

Screwfix sell similar to the ones I use at work, also I have seen somebody hang a 42" plasma screen on the wall with these. And as far as I know it's still up there.

Really depends on what you are trying to fix to the wall/plasterboard, both Simpo Two and mickk fixings will possibly do, although I would tend to start with fixings using the smallest drill size/diameter, in which Rawplug do a standard grey wing type plastic wallplug which uses a No. 8 masonary drill bit. If that failed then mickk’s fixings etc. etc.

What Jeebus says is correct, these are the best fixings for PB and yes you do need the tool to get the best out of them.

One thing to watch is there are different sizes for single skin and double skin PB, you need to have the correct type. Usually a wall is single skin.

Next best are spring toggles, worst are the 'Redidrive' screw in type.

As above - I have the same tool - works a treat. Screwfix supplied tool and anchors. Recommended. Used for bathroom cabinet, kids bedroom shelves, all sorts - no problems (yet).

What he says, I never use anything else. The tool draws the back bit of the fixing towards you without spinning it like happens when you use a screwdriver.

Cheers Chaps.

Agreed on how good the screws are- my 32" LCD is hung in my bedroom with these.

I just wanted to know if the tool stoppings the plug from spinning, which from the sounds it, it does so I will be purchasing the tool and some more anchors.

Thanks again,

RR

I second this, please ignore posts above this, them screwy things are crappy, spring toggles are ok but i really prefair the hollow wall anchor over everything else. People really do underestimate the strength of a plasterboard wall when you know how to exploit it, hanging a 42" plasma is possible using these fixings and the right bracket wink

LOL edit to add i only just noticed the 42" plasma in the quote wink ive hung many up that are still there biggrin

I used these to mount two CD/DVD racks and they've been rock-solid so far.
