On the return from a thrash round the north penines got caught
in traffic and after ten minutes or so car started to run rough at low speed. This was soon joined by a flashing mil light. Got back home
and eventually traced a broken wire on the nearside throttle pot plug.

Question is can I take the plug apart to resolder the connection or do I need a new plug complete with the wire. The wire cores have parted at the brass terminal.

I think those terminals are crimped onto the wire, then the terminal pushed into the shroud.

If you can get the end of a soldering iron down onto the end of the terminal, go ahead and solder it. If not, you should be able to push a very thin screwdriver up the side of the terminal to release its little spring catch, slide it out the top of the plug, then solder the wire on and push it back in.

Andy.

Cheers, will give that a go in the morning. Car made it home under its own steam so not counting that as a breakdown

Thats another cheap fix. Problem solved and the wires cable tied both sides
to try and stop them rubbing the bonnet.

Thanks again Andy

If it happens again, you can disconnect one throttle pot and the ECU uses the other to map for both sides.

I found this out after driving home with a pot that spiked badly.

Glad its sorted Rich.

By the way, if I disconnect one of my throttle pots the car runs, but won't start with one off!
