Ok, I retract my offer!
Camera-shy plates, do they work,? well I know someone who bought one for his bike and whilst it is not totally unreadable, it is more difficult to read - when using flash photography and at certain angles, and at the same time not looking 'dodgy' which combined with it's small size might just be illegible under certain circumstances.
However I know someone who has a 'flip' plate and that is definately illegible when flipped (even if it 'flips' itself occaisonally due to electrical 'interference' from the engine).

Before you dismiss these plates consider this. I contacted Camera shy and said " what have you got to say about the bad press you're getting at this speedtrap web site"
" Those plates arn't ours they reply, they are made by "SURE SIGNS" and we don't know how they make them but they are not made like ours. Ours work.

Looks like people are mixing up 2 different kinds of plates.
BTW I have got nothing to do with either company/concern. I was just interested and decided to delve deeper,

yes they do work i have had loads of set and so have many of my freinds they take about 14 days to arrive the other web site isnt these guys i phoned and asked they were made by sure sighns any way if you want proof email me and and ill send pics of my plates i took myself

all i can say on the matter is i bought a set of plates and have been photographed by speed cameras on a number of occasions and have never had anything through the post. When a mate of mine told me he had been on this site and people were asking about plates from www.camera-shy.co.uk which is were i got mine from he told me to join this forum and put my opinion across, so i did, i read what was said and gave my opinion. I have tried photographing them and cant get them to show up even if i reverse the image into negative. I want to make it clear i do not work for them, have anything to do with them in anyway what so ever, im just a person with experience of a product that seems to work.
Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regs 2001
Regulation 11.
- (1) No reflex-reflecting material may be applied to any part of a registration plate and the plate must not be treated in such a way that the characters of the registration mark become, or are caused to act as, retroreflective characters.
(2) A registration plate must not be treated in any other way which renders the characters of the registration mark less easily distinguishable to the eye or which would prevent or impair the making of a true photographic image of the plate through the medium of camera and film or any other device.
Doesn't this make them illegal?
Further if they don't show up on Camera then what about ANPR, which presumably will not record as a VRM and a sure pull to follow??

DVD is quite right. I have spoken with those that develop GATSO pictures. Some of the plates available do work, in so much as the picture doesn't come the first time it is developed. But... now I'm no photographer, and I forget the technicalities, but basically the film can be redevoloped a different way, and the registration becomes readable. So you then get the NIP anyway, and either a knock at the door, or an info. marker on PNC which will ensure you are pulled if an ANPR sees you.
Definately illegal - it could amount to perverting the course of justice - serious stuff - porridge beckons if convicted.
To avoid NIPs, what you really want to do is follow this plan:
1) Make up a ficticious company. "ABC Ltd."
2) Register your car to ABC Ltd.
3) Hire a mailbox for ABC Ltd. There are high street ones such as Mail Boxes etc... They are quite above board, and require some ID, and you sign to say that if BiB calls, Mail Boxes will disclose the hirers details. However there are plenty who ask few questions are hear few lies. I know, I spent much time chasing such companies in a previous life.
This way, your car is registered to a company which doesn't exist, and thus cannot be traced via companies house. In the unlikely event BiB tries to track down the mailing address, he will be met by a bod who will not disclose anything without an Order from the High Court. Which BiB is almost certainly never going to obtain, as it is hours of work, a day in court, and quite simply not worth it.
Yet at the same time, you can legitimately get all paperwork sent to the mailbox address.
A couple of points to consider: Insurance info. is now on PNC. A clever BiB, with a little luck, might extract policyholder details from the insurer, so care is needed about how it is insured.

thanks for the info. When i bought the plates it said that they are not road legal but are meant for show cars or off road use and it is up to the individual to decide how they use them but it wasnt recomended. i suppose its a bit like snoopers and road angels at first it was legal to own but not to use, who knows, things keep changing! The more obstacles given the more people find aways around them.
I must say this has been a great topic of conversation and i wonder how long the debate will go on for!!!!
