My youngest has expressed an interest in a scalectrix set for her birthday.

As the dutiful father I went online and had a quick look around and it seems rather more complicated than when I was young.

So, can I beg for info?

Ruling out the mini sized stuff, so I think 1/32 is the scale?

1st issue: Brands - scalectrix, nino, carrera, scx etc
2nd issue: digital/analogue?

So which tracks work with which? Are the different brands connectable? I see adapters for sale?

Can all cars run on all tracks? Some kits offer braking - is this dependent on the controller? The car? the system?

Is there a good info site for all this stuff?

Mods - I didn't know where to put this, general/lounge/scale models/computers&gadgets/kit cars so feel free to randomly relocate the question. Be nice if it got some answers first though smile

thanks

Either drop my brother-in-law an email or a call through his website, I'm sure he could point you in the right direction - www.megamodelshop.co.uk

His names Aly.

Look at second hand stuff on E-bay - generally SH track it doesn't fetch much

The digital system is great, with multiple cars running on the same track (up to 6 at a time I think).

The only downside is that each car needs a chip in it, they can be retrofitted in a few minutes if you are comfortable with a soldering iron, some newer cars will accept a slot-in chip. Upgrade costs about a tenner.

The digital systems use the newer Sport track but you can get adapters to join up older track.

I've bought some stuff from this eBay seller - very reliable: http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/jadlamracing

Jadlam are pretty well stocked and not too dear.

Might be worth just getting a small "Sport" track system to see how she likes it before forking out for big set ups. Avoid the "classic" track, only avail used now anyway, its a pain in the hoop to build and split down again!

Stick to Scaletrix stuff and normal size, rather than micro imo & you'll be ok.

OK, thanks. I'll look at those sellers and see what I can find. I agree a small starter set makes sense. Pref a figure 8 rather than an oval.
