A Young Wood Pigeon......

...... is wandering around my garden apparently uninjured but not able to fly. I suspect it has left the nest prematurely. Has been there since last night.

Although I love birds (feathered variety) and have kept cockatiels in the past, I am no lover of pigeons. I do feel sorry for the poor little chap though.

Any suggestions except eating it?

Should I

1. Leave it alone to (die) let nature take its course
2. Put it out of its misery
3. something else?

What do the PH massive reckon is the 'right' thing to do and where is Pigeon when you need him?

4. clip its wings, feed it lots of nuts and then make a pie

Kill it. Eat it. They're classed as vermin so you're doing somebody a favour by doing so.

You'll always get small amounts of decent meat from a pigeon. Personally I wouldn't bother with anything other than the breast meat though. It takes literally 5 minutes to butcher.

As mentioned you can fry it and have a sandwich.

Nothing wrong with a wood pigeon.

Don't tar it with the same brush as its townie, chavvy pigeon cousins.

I say nurture it to adulthood - a project.

Too slow and awkward for practical pistol. No challenge!

AJ (German Shepherd) was shepherding it (pigeonherding?) it around the garden earlier but appeared more concerned than likely to do it any damage.

I'v lifted it onto te fence in the hope that a local bird of prey might benefit rather than an overfed moggie!

You're probably right about it crapping on cars. How does it go? You help a lame duck over a fence.....
