Silverstones Possible New Track - Todays Autosport

I have just read todays Autosport which has the amended MotoGP configuration layout on page 10. Looks good to me although not sure about the planned move of the start/finish & the new pits complex out to Club Corner.
However if i'm honest I probably dont care too much so long as the track remains fast, challenging, interesting &, mots important of all, they keep the British GP where it belongs for the next 10/15 years.
I like the look of the three potentially very fast straights with decent corners at the end which should mean we get some overtaking. Which, apart from the last couple of GP's, has been lacking.
Whatever happens, assuming that Silverstone signs a contract, which I think they will, I foresee a sell out 2010 British GP. Which is, thankfully, something that Mr Gillett will never achieve.
On a slightly worrying note I wonder what will happen to Donington now that the money has run out & quite a lot of damage (deliberate maybe?) has been done to the circuit.

The motogp version of Silverstone was already in place at the time of the British GP 09. They didn't use it then for F1 then. Looks to me like they're just making it safer for bikes as corners like Woodcote have minimal run-off, which wouldn't be a simple flat-out corner for those phyiscally inferior 2-wheeled things. (

)To be completly honest Bridge is no longer a decent corner, with the Chicane at Abbey it is merely an acceleration zone. It would be of no great loss at all if the Corner was lost....
I really quite like the new Moto GP layout, I think the original idea of the Arrowhead was better that the refigured design..... However I feel Brocklands will now become quite a decent overtaking zone if the F1 were to use it!
I think if there doing some redevelopments they should tighten Stowe corner up a tad, as it curves slightly to much for overtaking!

I agree with what you say in terms of F1 cars - it is just an acceleration zone - but the sheer brutality and other-worldly speed they carry through Bridge is something I'd never get bored off. Standing between Abbey and Bridge watching F1 cars at full chat is (for me) as dramatic a sight as I know in motor racing. Would love the old circuit to come back, weren't born when it was in use but, but from old races I've watched it was one hell of a track.....

There's not much run off at all at Abbey. If the chicane wasn't used, I would say the run off on the outside (by the farm) would be highly marginal for a modern Grand Prix car. Doesn't mean it wouldn't be fantastic, but can't see it being accepted somehow. I also think the current Becketts/Maggotts/Chapel sequence is far more challenging and exciting for a humble spectator like me than the old Becketts. To stand on the outside of the track just inside that first direction change when you're watching something with proper aero like an F1 car, LMP1, Group C is absolutely mind-blowing. The way you can see the downforce still acting hard, even with a clip on the kerbs moving the car is beyond astounding. Worth keeping Silverstone just for that in my opinion.
