Seen the trailer for Avatar and i'm not sure it looks like its gonna be as amazing as everyone thinks.

Style over substance? Happy to be wrong though.

After all the hype, I'm wondering if it will be one of those over CGI'd crap fests, with little in the way of plot.

It did look a tad like a CGI film in the clip. Which is a bit of a shame, as no matter how good the CGI, it STILL looks like CGI.

I've always thought it'd be style over substance from the first trailer I saw, I'd like to be proven wrong but I don't think I will.

This is James Cameron we're talking about though, a man who knows what he's doing. I have faith, although admittedly it does look a bit like Dances With Wolves in space............

As per the other thread, it's apparently a scene for scene rip off of a previous movie

Bit naughty of Cameron I think

That's a bit odd. Delgo only came out in December 2008.

Both films were probably in production for years, Avatar probably for longer..

Film still looks crap though. Not impressed one bit.

No one has seen the whole of Avatar so I don't understand how it could be a scene by scene rip off? confused I bet I could find very similar screen grabs in any sci-fi/fantasy film

I can show you 3 other films with landscapes hanging in the air just off the top of my head.

Humanoid aliens of different colours? Ditto.

People ride on dragons? I guess Mr Tolkien's getting a lawsuit too?

Oh, and a male and female character 'fall in love'? I am sure Hollywood would love that new concept.

A lawsuit would go nowhere.

I think it will be an over-engineered cgi fest that will be technically great but a bit flat and empty.

It'll be like Superman Returns - every reviewer will jizz in their pants at first but once the hype dies off it will be seen to be style over substance. Just my IMHO and hope I'm proved wrong.

I have to say when I first watched the trailer and the sci-fi part I thought it looked great.

When it went to the CGI world I was just a bit disappointed.

I just hope that the 'real world' part is 70% and the CGI is 30%. However, I have a sneaking suspicion it may be the other way around.

The trailer looked really really impressive in the cinema.

Looks a bit too Star Wars Prequels to me. Ill probably love it though.

I'm surprised you found time to type all that, what with James Camerons cock in your mouth and all hehe

You can't honestly deny there are similarities.

Just seen a 3 min trailer for the space fairy film. From what I could make out the marines are plugged into a kind of virtual reality machine controlling their own grown Avatar. One of them dropped in to infiltrate the local population sees the damage the marines are doing and changes sides to fight with the locals. So why don't they just unplug him?

I saw one of the new South Park episodes this week, the final twist that Avatar is a ripoff of Cartman's "Dances With Smurfs" made me chuckle lots, think I will be seeing it just to see if it's true. biggrin

Did I say that there weren't similarities?

I think in fact the point of my post is to specify that of course there are similarities, in exactly the same way there are similarities to many other films...
