It can be but depends on the age of the car - only the later ones can have the option, I think it's 2004 and onwards.

Correct but can be done from key in lock on earlier models

mine is a very very late 53 plate so i guess i can only do it from the lock. how do you do it from the lock by the way i tried and failed.
there is so much technology in this car i don't know how to work most of it.

Twist to unlock and hold.

Twist to lock and hold to put hood up.

Do the windows go up/down when you hold key in place ( key has to be turned 90 degrees )

sorry it was a bit to wet to try it over the weekend but the fact the hood works by the dash button sounds like the hood is ok. maybe i didn't hold the key down for long enough or the right way?

You can have it programmed to do via the remote. Not sure if the main dealers will be willing to do it, but it's certainly possible. Search out an indy with the right equipment if needs be.

ok mate. how would they do it as it doesn't have a spare button on the fob like the 04 onwards cars have?
do you know how much it might cost as i know from bmw the 04 plate models can be done for under £30

You press and hold either the unlock or lock buttons depending on if you want to raise or lower the roof. Are you sure the 04 models have an extra button on the remote? I thought they used the same diamond shaped key throughout the E46 range. As for price, my local garage quoted £55 to program the car with any of the options available.
