I am looking at getting my OH a pair of Diamond Stud earrings for Christmas as she has some CZ ones and I thought it would be nice to get her the real deal

I have seen a number of threads on here regarding engagement rings citing Nightmare, Lord Summerisle and Matt @ Equinox as the chaps to speak to..

I have mailed Matt through his website but havent heard anything as of yet

But just asking really, is it worth getting something custom made or when it comes to diamonds in earrings are they all much of a muchness and would I be better getting off the shelf things?

Any advice appreciated, looking at £150 to £200 is that a reasonable budget?

Hmmm, £200 for proper diamond earings, they'd be pretty small, even if buying at a high street store. She might appreciate a single, bigger diamond in a necklass for that money more.

Size is everything at this money, forget all the stuff about cut and clarity. Go for the biggest you can afford. Heres a tip, get the person selling them to take them out of the display tray and put them on (if pretty female salesperson!). Diamonds tend to look big on a sales tray, but tiny fitted.

You need to up your budget to get anything worthwhile.

I've used this chap before and his diamonds are excellent.

wooooahh hold your foot up! dont be so hasty to give up.

If you can stretch to increasing your budget a little (to £400)
then a pair of 14K whitegold .25twc G/SI stones are within budget

With ear-rings then because they aren't scrutinized as closely as e-rings - so going lower colour and clarity isnt a problem.

As always i believe the cut is king - get a great cut, and a small (or large) stone will catch your eye from across the room.

Cheers for the info, this may have to wait for her birthday next year, I have splashed out on taking us both to Edinburgh for NYE so £200 is my upper limit I am afraid (I'm not a typical PH'er on £3,000,0000 a year salary)

I may follow up on the necklace idea as I guess one diamond is cheaper than two, the trouble is finding a design she would like....why cant you just give women vouchers eh? smile

In terms of price of a pendent.
a similar 3 prong 'martini' basket like the earings above
with a single 0.25ct H SI diamond in 18k White Gold

would be about £630.

The usual pistonheads "only to impress" waffle.

What do you actually want them for? When do you expect her to wear them?

A couple of years ago I decided like you to buy my then fiancee some diamond earings. I wanted her to be able to wear them all the time, but due to her work they would need to be discreet. The trick then is you go for small, discreet and classy. The opposite of the big/bling mentality.

The pair I bought cost £100. Small diamond, gold and she wears them everyday.

So you can either have your lass wear them only sometimes and then look like she is chav tat or you can buy her something she can wear everyday, are smart, reasonably classy and tasteful and nobody thinks she is an extra from Eastenders.

From some maybe, but I have always found Lord Summerisle to be on the money, these would be for everyday use, but I dont want to buy her tat, she doesnt wear gold so it would have to be white gold or platinum I guess, I have seen some, but (and I dont mean to cause offence here) if a lot of people are saying they are gonna be pap then I would rather save my pennies and spend the required amount on her birthday, cheers though

Ah not bad, actually, the trouble is, I know she likes the stud type, as you posted earlier, single diamond etc

While I like these, I have no idea if she would, they are nice though, I might see what one of her mates think, where did you find these?

Are they good, diamond wise? Or fair?

they are from here

they are 4 'A Cut Above' melee diamonds (0.15tcw) , and 2 pink saphire. (so as per the picture, a pink saphire and 2 diamonds per stud)

So quite small diamonds - but cut to the same high standards as their larger stones.

While we're on the subject. Im after emerald earings for the gf this christmas. Any online sites anyone can reccomend for emeralds? I've only looked in local jewellers so far and pricing seems all over the place. Any advice on buying emeralds?
