Recently I was in a meeting with the sort of people that make up these government quangos you always hear about. One of things discussed was the idea that all salaries be made public (published on the internet!). This was not just for public sector workers but everyone would be made to do it. They said this would reduce racial and gender discrimination in the workplace because everyone would know how much their peers were being paid. Amazingly every single one of them agreed this was a good idea! (not surprisingly they all had job titles with the words "equality" and "diversity" in them too) They also seemed confident that they could push this legislation through "should the political landscape deem it appropriate in an election reversal".

How would you feel about your salary being published on the internet? Personally I think it is none of their damn business how much I get paid!

I was with them, but now they have opened their mouths I hate them and I want to see them building roads in the snow. I hate public sector parasites.

That's a great idea. As a hardened criminal it will allow me to be far more choosy about who I burgle.

Businesses are going to face a st storm if that happens...

Imagine walking into work on monday and finding this list and seeing your colleague who does bugger all and posts on PH all day gets double your salary... what do you do?

And when doing the obvious and not getting the payrise, your colleague finds out what you get and sniggers.... everytime he sees you from now on he has a smile on his face... but he is not doing anything to shove it in your face that you can prove... great eh!!

Also what makes them think they are going to ask my company and that it will give them a figure?

Public sector maybe... to get rid of the expensive pen pushers who do bugger all and are on a promise, but private sector... err... no, your not my boss!! I am!!

How would it work for the self-employed? Do we get to see tax returns?

Comrades, we are all equal.....We all work for the state. Oh wait, no we don't.

What a ridiculous suggestion, not unusual for Govt employees to make such idiotic comments mind.

What would they do for self employed people?

I saw footage of previous Labour conferences with people like Neil Kinnock addressing everyone as "comrade". /o\

I was a plc director for a number of years and my full salary, bonus, pension contributions and other benefits were published every year in the annual report for my staff, customers, friends and relations to see. bhing about directors salaries is the main reason people go to AGM's. Print everybody's and have a level playing field I say.

In the public sector where pay is graded I dont see why not.. but the private sector is a different ball game, surely they know this. If I can negotiate more money than my peers, good for me, or good for them. What it has to do with anyone else is beyond me.

If you are not capable of negotiating properly then thats your problem. IMO equality is only preferrable to those who want more but are not willing to do anything for it.

It's perfectly legal to pay dividends to shareholders. Obviously if you pay yourself £1 a month and the rest in divi than questions will be asked but keep it sensible and no problems.
