Is there a Back Home 2004?

This was asked on the RO forum a few weeks ago. There may be a Mini "Meet your Maker". This may be a one day event not a weekend. There will also be a Mania.

I think now the Tuscan Race dates are out plans will be firmed up and confirmed at the next committee meeting. The Tuscan dates are required to make sure that the factory and dealers are available for events.

Details of all the TVR Car Club's major events are still being finalised. We have had to wait until, for example, the Tuscan and GT dates were confirmed before we could start looking at spare dates for our events. Full details will be announced in Sprint and on www.tvrcc.com as soon as we have them.

Looks like were having one now called mini back home as posted on Tvrcc.com.
Lets arrange something for the saturday afternoon and a pi** up in the evening and call it Back Home.
Although there is plenty to do in Blackpool its still along way to come for our friends in the south and south east for what is just a sunday Factory Tour. Although it chucked it down last year a think most people enjoyed what had been laid on.
What,s your opinion.

A mini back home is a bit of a no no for most of us "darn sarf" as much as we like driving our beasts,a one day back home is just a tad to far!!!
I think that my feelings will be echoed by Surrey/Kent/suffolk etc etc.

I have done the Back Home run a few time and always enjoyed it.I thought this was one of the main events of the TVRCC.Does anyone know why it has been cut short and given a lower profile?

I know where you're coming from Dave, but if someone local could organise a pub for the Sunday lunch, I'd be up for a trip up to the wilds.

I agree with Valhalla that a one day event seems a bit of a short one for the length of the drive, as we would in theory be driving for virtually as long as we're there (8.5 hours round trip for us). Why has it been shortened (this was to be my first one this year)? As it happens I have family in Lancaster so we can include a visit to son & his menagerie (snakes/lizards/spiders) but would have liked more social stuff. So if anyone aims to arrive early/leave late/arrange other things, please post them up as us interlopers from the south would be interested to know

But I cannot account for the wishes of the TVRCC.

Yeah Blackpoolwedge, I'm gutted too - its been shifted to April & I can't even go to whatever there's going to be! But you would think the club would be looking to strengthen ties with Bristol Avenue rather than cut back on them. Odd. If I'm missing something (apart from the weekend!) it would be nice for one of the team to explain.

Why a Mini Back Home? Well it's simple. Traditionally, the majority of attendees at this event only come on the Sunday morning for the Factory Visit - in 2003 if I recall there were around 200 members staying at the hotel but 450 on the Factory Tours. We have been criticised in the past by some members who have commented that the weekend is expensive and so we have tried to respond to this criticism by keeping the costs as low as possible but still enabling our members to visit TVR. We therefore decided to scale down Back Home this year and focus our resources more on Mania later in the year, which promises to be the biggest and best ever - the date is announced in Sprint which will be out early this week and simultaneously released on our website. Next year, we plan to reverse the arrangement with a large Back Home and a smaller Mania.
Our relationship with TVR has never been better and we are indebted to them for allowing us to visit on what is about the only Sunday in April/May/June when they are not otherwise involved in some form of motorsport.
As the great man said, you cannot please all of the people all of the time. But we do try to please most members most of the time.

Ralph, thanks for the reply, appreciated. How many turned up on the Saturday though last year. I think there were many, like myself, who would drive both days - the evening is only one part of the whole event. But anyway, ungrudging appreciation to all those at the club who make things happen.

I cannot believe that the club is changing the format of this event and making it impossible for most of the members to attend. We have been planning this weekend away for ages, is this another case of the club more worried about making money than happy members.

I think its probably more of a case of the new committee wanting to get the club on an even keel, before embarking on things that could loose the club lots of money.

Give them Time and im sure Springbok et al will have everything running smoothly.

Haven’t you just confirmed my argument that the club does NOT want to spend the money!

While it is a shame that this years Back Home will be a shortened affair, I think that if next years Back Home will be a larger than usual one will even it out a bit. I do also agree that the Mania event does need some extra attention, so I think that we should support the club for at least trying to make things better for everybody.

Thank you Ralph for giving us the TVRCC View, it is refreshing that you are all monitoring PH and prepared to provide a response.

I'm a little confused as Saturday from what I see in the car park had a large attendance, including the local community and some holiday makers, which is good for club PR and Blackpool. I felt a lot of good work was well rewarded with attendance despite the time of year and weather.

I would have thought a change of venue for the weekend and evening for a more affordable option, (those bar prices are awful) would be a better consideration that may get members taking the option of staying over.

Just thoughts.

I didn't go last year because of a bit of bad luck with my car. I did wonder what the Saturday was for though. I can only enjoy standing around in a car park for so long.

I am hoping to stay overnight because of the distance, but I can also appreciate someone more local wouldn't want to and that giving up a whole weekend can be much more of a problem than a day out on Sunday. So it's a pity arrangements couldn't be tailored to the numbers expected on each day.

Blackpool is not short on entertainment though and I might have felt guilty toddling off for some cockles if TVRCC had arranged something, so, hay-ho.
