Cannot use code with suspended xbox live account. HELP!!!

The creditcard on my xbox live account expired, so my xbox live gold membership has expired because I've just been too busy to play recently and never go around to sorting it.
Anyway, I bought Forza 3 and also the Forza 3 GOLD Membership 12+1 month pack, but it won't let me use the code, saying my account is suspended and I need to change the membership option.
So I've tried this but it still won't do it!!
I'm guessing it will only let me continue if I put a valid creditcard on the system, but I don't want to do this as I'm worried it will take a year's payment off my creditcard instead of letting me use the code!
An I being clear? Can anyone else advise? All I wanna do is race! I have sent a message to xbox support but still not had a reply.

Either set up a new live account and use the code, or renew your payment with the credit card and pay £40...

It's not a free code - it cost me £39.99 from HMV!!! I want to use this code instead of using my Creditcard - to be honest I may just set up a new account - don't like my tag anyway - and got a crap rating. Just a pain to add all my mates again etc.

I had this recently. Same thing, CC expired & so did XBOX live.
You need to phone them up, they will demand a credit card number. Say no and they can transfer the account to silver.
When this is done add in the Live code you have. AS you haven't put in a Credit card it will stop being auto renewal. This is what has caused your problem, because it has tryed to auto renew and can't but hasn't been cancelled.
You cannot change to silver online, only by phone.

Do as suggested above: I bought you were trying to use a second freebie code on the same account.

Can you not just sign up for a new Gamertag?
If you sign up for Silver membership you will be offered Gold for a 1 month trial. You will get this trial offered for the first 3 gamertags you apply for per console.
Also have to echo concerns over credit card details. You can never remove CC details from your account without phoning Microsoft. I'd recommend always buying DLC or Live membership with points/codes.
