Maybe a little specific, but you never know.

Just changed my phone over from HTC TytnII to HTC Hero. Everything works OK except for the name is not coming up on the iDrive with incoming calls, I just get 5 asterisks instead.
I can see all the names through the iDrive and the name appears whilst I'm doing an outgoing call.

Any ideas?

Maybe this would be better in the computers and gadgets forum.

If you have more than one number stored for a contact, the I-Drive only recognises the default number. If a contact calls you from any number other than the default you will get *****.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think he's saying that if like on my phone you can store John Smith on your phone with work, home and mobile numbers but UNDER THE SAME NAME etc, and John Smith calls you from anything other than 'mobile' which let's say was the first number of John's that you saved, then it wont display ''John Smith'' when he calls from work....

Or that's my understanding/perception of it anyway.....

Mine doesnt do that, if I have the SWMBO mobile and work number they both display depending which number she calls from.

I think it more likely that it is an incompatability issue twixt phone and car, have you checked this with BMW website?

With a Nokia phone you can select which number (the default number) from a list of numbers stored against one name is the one that will be dialled if you just select the contacts name rather than one of the specific stored numbers. I have an 07 E61 LCI model and the car only recognises the default number as being tagged with a name on incoming calls. Equally frustrating is that the only number that can be dialled through the I-Drive is the default. This has been the case with several Nokia models that I have tried in the car.
As has been suggested, perhaps the problem is one of phone compatability with the I-Drive.

I think I have the answer as to why it is not working. On the Hero if you save a contact to the address book it has to be saved under a 'label' like mobile or home. You save a name, groucho for example under the mobile label, it comes up on the iDrive as groucho (M).

This is where the conflict is I reckon as the saved name is different from the displayed name.

If I could find a way to save a name with no label that would be it is my guess.
