Gordon Brown was wrong to suggest that Britain was better placed than its rivals to weather the recession, his Chancellor has conceded.

Alistair Darling came under pressure today to justify the Prime Minister's claim that Britain would lead the world out of the downturn.

The Chancellor insisted Britain would return to growth at the end of the year, despite seeing France, Germany and the US all exit the recession first

But asked to accept Britain is not leading the world out of the downturn, he appeared to acknowledge the Prime Minister was wrong.

“Other countries have come out of recession before us. However, the point I’m making is, I always thought that, so far as our country is concerned, it would be the turn of the year before we saw that,” he told the BBC.

It's hardly lying is it?

Another BS story that isn't worth the ink wasted on the headline.

Everyone else knew he was wrong - he was in the best position to know the truth. So if it wasn't lying what was it?

Deliberate mis-presentation?

Yes. Yes, it is.

It's hardly unusual, though. New Labour have misled the public from start to finish, with blatant lie after barefaced, grinning lie (or gurning lie, in Brown's case). This has just been an easily falsifiable one.

Whilst were all aware that the guy is a complete loser and not worth of a job sweeping the streets let alone PM, unfortunately he is PM and should be derided for every single one of his mistakes and lies
It is his job to heed the advice of his advisors on future trends and act accordingly, the man has repeatedly stated that he knows best and will be single handedly responsible for bringing the UK (and the rest of the world) out of recession, that his chancellor has confirmed his deceit is staggeringly damning of winky, his policies and his government

I wonder if the rest of the world, particularly the US, still think he's some kind of genius. Everyone seems to be pulling through except us

The rest of the world aren't getting his greatness rammed down their throats by a very biased media. Remember his last meeting with Obama? No, nor does Obama.

There you go.
See how easy it becomes, after months of continuous exposure to these lies, just to roll over and start the process of ACCEPTANCE.

Its not his fault though- its the previous Chancehlor of the exchequeur, who said in every budget from 1997 onwards that:

"prudence is the watchword. Due to my prudence, we will not return to the days of boom and bust...."

So blame him, not the PM. Oh, hang on...

You misunderstand. I don't accept anything about this Govt. In fact, I would support a military coup in order to protect this country.

However, I also do hassle my MP about such things.

A failure to predict the future properly is not lieing - it is just being wrong. You cannot lie about something that has not yet happened.

Just another example of bullst and spin from a politician - what do you expect?

We should have a little vote on whether you are
o naive
o lieing
o dumb
(probably multi-selection).

Gordon had access to all the figures, and control of his own policies. He will have been told what the results would be. He chose to lie to us.

Before saying I am naive, dumb and a liar you should read my post properly ,and also read the story as well.

Show me where Darling called Brown a liar - please ,pretty please?

Brown undoubtedly lies about a good many things ,but you simply cannot lie about an event in the future. (Even if you have a pretty good idea of what will happen)

Pedantic ,me? Surely not. biggrin

They know he's a complete failure just like the rest of the world, they simply don't want to humiliate the British people by calling him it. Diplomacy or somesuch..

Brown knew the truth but said otherwise, so it's a lie. Anyway, has Darling gone a bit silly , only recently he's admitted that flight tax has nothing to do with the environment and all to do with replenishing government coffers. Is he after Brown's job I wonder... rolleyes are the rats deserting the sinking ship?
