Front Cover design

While I have my front cover off replacing my cam, I am trying to understand how the Rover V8 works.. Interesting learning curve.

Have I got this right? The harmonic balancer, bolted to the crank stub at 150 ft lbs squashes the oil pump drive (serp) and the small cam belt sprocket hard against the end of the crank stub. Or otherwords, there is no small amount of free play for the cam sprocket or the oil pump drive to move.

Reason for asking is the offsets of the timing chain and sprockets seem a little different on my new set as compared to the old. Just want to make sure things line up without causing any issues

Just spoke to the guys at V8D regarding another matter (fantastic chaps to talk to..!!!!!) and they helped..

The answer is yes.. the are all pressed together via the balancer.

If you are using the intermediate cover with a duplex gear/chain set, pay attention to the clearance around the dizzy boss (there needs to be a flat ground or milled onto that)
