I think at the level of power that the B5 delivers (497bhp) you'd find it difficult to
notice the extra 30bhp the B5S has, don't forget that the Alpina power figure is very very
conservative as not to upset the Mother factory with it's //M-Cars. Buchloe alway use
the power figure using the very worse set of circumstances possible ie lowest octane fuel
allowable for efficient running of the engine and in the highest ambient temperature ie Middle East
type temps the Alpina Grapevine suggests a conservative 550bhp when run on 97/98 octane fuels
and at European temps'. After personally pedalling DeRs B5 a while back I don't think that theres
many things that'll live with it in a straight line (an Uber tuned 993TT had its work cut out trying to gap it on the M-way) and the way it demolished a long uphill stretch on the Westbound
M62 that particular evening (at a Velocity that would've netted me a very long stretch inside)
will be something I tell my Grandchildren about!!
As DeR states the only weakness is a Lack of LSD, a quick call to Birds for one of their
Quaife ATB diffs will sort that out....

agree with the 2 learned gents above, I jumped out of my (circa) 530bhp RS6 into Der's at VMAX once, the B5 was noticeably quicker, I mean, MUCH quicker. I'd just gone through the laser traps at 170 in the RS6 flat out, the B5 comfortably went through at circa 180 and still pulling like a goodun!
Evening gents.
Interesting to hear both points: Gandalf's comments re the 'understated' nature of stated, Buchlovian outputs...
Even if we assume the car develops the (certainly conservatively felt) 493 bhp, when you take into account the new RS6's 580 bhp but that car's 2 tonne+ heft, you actually have power-weight ratios of remarkable similarity.
Now, if the higher octane juicings and lower ambiences of our more northerly latitude are significant power brokers in this matter, you are certainly on the brink of ordering up some unholy portions of Harold Ramsden's finer chunks of battered belly busting...
If you talk to the car's current custodian, Norfolk, he can certainly recall one or two European 'dalliances' with a most unexpected outcomes.
Yup, an utterly phenomenal car. Phenomenal.

Afternoon peasants,
Now look this just won’t do, you mean the car had been used in anger before I acquired it?
By way of a benchmark I have let the B5 run ‘side by side’ with the new RS6 and as mentioned above, over a two mile stretch the RS6 pulled hardly half a cars length which pretty much backs up the power claims mentioned by my learned chum. In summary it’s a lot more than 497
When I took the car to Craig’s garden party last year I got 186 on the bathroom scales before hitting the anchors early which pretty much ties in with DeR’s runs in the car I think?
It absolutely demolished an R8 on the way back from Germany, my only problem was by the time I realised where I was I wasn’t actually in the Fatherland anymore and had crossed the Dutch border, let’s just say the Dutch don’t have quite the same views on speeding.
To be honest the lack of an LSD has never really bothered me, it’s a very different car to an M5 and far more about under stressed motorway cruising than rapid cross country transit but when you need to summons the horses they are there in quantities found almost nowhere else.
Buy one, you’ll not be disappointed

Well, we safely guided the beastie back to port up and through some dire precipitation last night.
It is hard to know where to begin but Joesph Tempest's vocal on Europe's (yes, The Final Countdown lot have gorn all spikey) The Beast provided a suitable musical impetus to do what this rolling sledgehammer does better than almost anything else.
Invoke total automotive blitzkreig.
I am in a state of total, total shock.
This is the finest real world, all round motor car every produced which happens to be as quick as Chewbacca's temper.
I'm just going away to lick it.
The war paint is utterly fab, btw.
Norfolk, you sell this and I'm sending you to the county's premium vivisectionist.
I don't think that chap in the XKR really knew what hit him...

Yes, Ashok, indubitably so.
I've had to put her away to stop spunking fuel like Ollie Reed supping ale in the Guinness QC Dept; every time a cheeky glimpse is had and I whisk up some tenuous pretext to jump in, like Flint and drive mindlessly around, revelling in that unsurpassed blend of velvet, torquelar Kessel, waft unt schnell and finally quiet, then riot...
If I think of all the best attributes of all the saloons I've ever run, this baby seems to encapsulate the best elements of them all, before elevating each characteristic so far above the battle station standing fast against mediocrity that all you can do is plunge, charge and defeat the horizon.
Yup, sublime purrfection.
