I've been looking for a project to start from scratch, once I've sold my current toy, I want something that is usable on the road but primarily designed for track use, bike engine for the power to weight ratio and ideally mid engined.

I was set on the Fury Menace but found out that they've stopped making it after only single figures being sold.

Does anybody know much about the Spire? anybody building one?

John Cutmore has been successfully racing a CBR100RR engined Spire in RGB this season. There were I think a few teething problems (ISTR mainly cooling related) but once they were sorted he's been uncatchable in Class B. If you look through the RGB lap records I think the only ones John didn't get are the circuits we didn't race at this year or where he DNF'd.

General consensus is that the rear end is pretty ugly (no wings allowed in RGB so John's car has bodywork that swoops up at the back - looks quite different to the cars on the Spire website) but clearly generates quite a lot of downforce. Paul from Spire has been around the paddock all season and seems a nice guy.

For your requirements the Spire would seem to be the best bet. I don't know anybody who is building one, but I expect some more research would produce something.

Hi
I built one 3 years ago and as a first project it was a fairly straight forward build. It still puts a smile on my face when I drive it . More info is available on the owners club website http://www.spireoc.co.uk/
I believe Paul will have a stand at the Exeter show so he can answer any questions you have. I should have my car there as long as it's dry

I’ve hot linked the Spires myself because I thought that they were pretty sharp, but I’m actually looking for something to put on the street, and I think it would be a push. I think if you are going to have a dedicated track car though, it looks like it would be money well spent.

Any more details on the Part built? especially concerning rear suspension set up.

fully rebuilt live axle.... best for getting power down with light weight and keeping weight down too. Hayabusa engine(not yet in), fully adjustable AVO's, obviously all new parts/chassis/bodywork etc.
