I am a bit of a numptie when it comes to car mechanics but I have decided to change the brake pads on my car myself yikes
How do you get the caliper pins out? I can't get the pads out as the pins are holding them in.
Is there a special tool? I have tried hitting them out with a old allan key but it's just bent and I don't have anything else that fits.

Any ideas of helpfull advise would be great.

Oh and can you get callipers powder coated?

You get a 'punch' tool and tap it out, bit of wd40 always helps. Can take a bit of persuation maybe try grabbing middle of the pins and wiggling to free them up. All strong piece of metal will do as a punch, allen keys are fair easy to bend.

I don't think powder coating will be up to braking temps

The correct tool is called a "parallel pin punch".

Thanks guys,

Ive soaked them in WD40 and ordered the tools that Mr2Mike suggested.

I'll give it another go tommorow.

It's actually a lot easier with the brakes on the car as you can geta proper wack on them. They will also only come out one way but you'll work that out smile
