Audi TT 225? Any good? Opinions/ Advice please
Discussion
I'm looking at buying one, anybody able to shed some light on them? My budget will be around £8k.
How reliable are they?
What are they like to drive? I know they aren't "amazing drivers cars", but are they ok to drive on a day to day basis and have the occasional blast in the country?
What's the boot like? It looks decent enough from pictures?
Performance, I'm not going to be screaming sound race tracks, but is it quick enough to safely over take and pull out of junctions easy enough?
What are Running costs like?
How economical is it? Being a 1.8 I would expect it to be ok?
What's handling like?
Anything else I should know?
Thanks in advance for your help.

A good freind of mine has a 225 Quattro Coupe' I took the piss constantly until I drove it. Much better then I was expecting.
Anyway it's a bit odd, it's never broken down but it seems to require a constant stream of maintainance. It had 60k (I think) when he bought it and it has required new shocks, new bushes, new turbo pipes, new exhaust, new bearings and loads of other bits.
Lastly if you're going to get it 'mapped' get someone reputable to do it, my mate has had no end of 'tuners' and 'mappers' cocking up the ECU map, it's back to standard now.
Personally I'd buy an Octavia VRS or Leon Cupra for 225 1.8t power but go for whatever floats your boat.....

How reliable are they? = Some suffer from electrical problems, best to try for yourself
What are they like to drive? I know they aren't "amazing drivers cars", but are they ok to drive on a day to day basis and have the occasional blast in the country? = I think you answered your own question there, 4wd Turbo so composed and grippy.
What's the boot like? It looks decent enough from pictures? = Hatchback, and as good as most coupes.
Performance, I'm not going to be screaming sound race tracks, but is it quick enough to safely over take and pull out of junctions easy enough? = Yes
What are Running costs like? = Find an independent dealer to service or a SEAT/Skoda garage - yes seriously.
How economical is it? Being a 1.8 I would expect it to be ok? 30mpg+ (on a good run) remember its a 4-cylinder.
What's handling like? = No real feedback IMO, but as you say you are not tracking it, fine for country lanes/motorways etc.
Anything else I should know? = Lookout for ignition coil failure and check history with the car

Hi,
Have a read here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here.
The answers to most of what you've asked are here, plus lots lots more. For what it's worth, they're not a bad car at all. Change the cambelt water pump and tensioners every 4 yrs/50k, change the Haldex oil and filter as per schedule, keep an eye on the dashpod, expect between 27 and 34mpg, and enjoy. Oh, get a 225/240 or a V6 not a 150/180/190 as you'll get exhaust pipe envy.

Had mine for 7 years. Had two types of problems :
- niggly electrical problems - coolant sensor, indicator relays, coil packs
- suspension issues - front and rear arbs, bushes, broken rear springs
Nothing massive to be honest but it seesm the suspension takes a bit of a battering and is prone to go a bit over the miles

Almost thought that was mine for a moment! Traded mine in a couple of months ago - same colour, plate and mileage. Only difference was my dashpod needed doing.....didn't quite getr that much but you never do with trade ins.and it really is lovely, 52 plate with 78,000 miles, full audi service history! cambelt done! dashpod done! haldex oil done! and every reciept from new! only 2 privious owners! £7,750, i'm in oldham area of manchester!
PS. Agree on the power. Most I've seen is 270 or so with remap and exhaust.

Yeh stage 1 your looking about 250bhp and 270lbs. Stage 2 could see you on 270bhp and 300+lbs.
That's believing a full exhaust can give 20 bhp, NO WAY.Stage 1 - 2 - 3 -4 -99...don't care. 1.8t with the K04 turbo don't do more those figures, never seen it.

Re-read the article last night and they did do more than a normal chip and exhaust. Intercooler, injectors, boost control etc but still 'surprised' by the results.
