Yay! way to go, David.

A perfect demonstration of how to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

It's not possible to hold a referendum this time next year as the treaty will already be ratified into law thanks to NuLabia.

Wouldn't it be too late anyway, by the time the next election has happened? Or could we have had the vote and then pulled out of it?

He only ever promised a referendum if the treaty had not been ratified by all Member States. It has now been so ratified. Tony Blair promised a referendum, but Labour went back on that promise.

Cameron will not be able to hold a referendum on the Treaty, because it is now automatically law in all 27 Member States. The only referendum he could hold would be on whether to renegotiate or abrogate our membership of the EU.

What the hell is he supposed to do?

EU: Your orders.
CMD: Well chaps. You know that legally binding contract my predecessor signed?
EU: Suck it up. It's happened. Back out now and you'll have to leave the EU entirely. We'll fk over your economy for a giggle just to piss you off.
CMD: Sigh.

Don't blame Cameron. Blame the fkers who signed us up to it.

As much as I despise the EU and all that it stands for, I don't think that is a realistic proposition.

Well, actually it is. We can have a referendum if we want to and we can tell them to poke any part of it that we don't like. It may have escaped some people's attention but we do still have the ability to say, "no" to anything we don't like. All that it requires is the political will to do so. European law is a nonsense. We can do whatever we like in our own country and there is bugger all they they can do about it.

Seems a bit harsh to condemn him for something he had no control over.

And the Czechs have signed it: Sky News

I don't see any point voting for a main party any more, as the EU and their similarities make it pointless - my vote is meaningless. So UKIP it will be, in the hope of gaining a voice again.

Unless you want to export something, import something or need international co-operation on something like security, energy supplies etc, etc. At which point your neighbours' opinions matter a lot.

isnt the point of an opposition to fight for the alternate view - why have labour been allowed to get away with this - surely a failure on tory part

great so now 1/2 people will vote ukip who would have voted tory leaving labour to get in..

The UK Independence Party believes that the UK should withdraw from the European Union and that our membership should be replaced with a genuine free trade agreement similar to those enjoyed by other non-EU nations such as Switzerland, Norway and Mexico.

We want friendship and free trade with our European neighbours – not political union.

Still voting Conservative just to make sure labour get out.
A vote for anyone else is a wasted vote in all honesty.
It will be between those 2.

Prominent Tory Euro-sceptic Bill Cash said a referendum should be held in the UK regardless of whether the Treaty is ratified.

"We need a full referendum on Lisbon as we were promised and as we voted in the House of Commons. No ifs or buts.

"This is about the Government of the United Kingdom operating in line with the democratic wishes of the electorate."

It's going to be a very interesting GE next yr.. UKIP and the BNP are going to do very well..
