A very good pal has phoned me this evening to tell me that his wife has been killed in an RTA this afternoon.

The worst part about it was that he was following her home after they collected her car from being serviced – he witnessed the accident...

Clearly he’s in shock, so he’s going to phone me back later, but what can I say to the poor guy?

Is there anything that I should recommend about what he should do for the next 24/48 hours?

BLoody hell, that's terrible. There isn't much you can say - just be there to listen and offer to go over if you think it would be useful.

Wow what a b*stard thing to happen and witness, my heart goes out for your mate. All you can do is be there for him, a shoulder to cry on and a strong emotional crutch.

You will have to play it by ear and just go with whatever. Nothing much you can say or do will change how he is feeling at the moment but just being there is support.

Echo the above, no need to say anything in particular, just be there to help and be someone to lean on, he must be going through hell at the moment. frown

I agree with others if you can go round I would, I doubt much you will say will go in at the moment. So just listen and offer to help with whatever you can.

He's 125 miles away, so going round isn't really an option

sorry, but you are a good mate of his?, 125 miles would be around 2hours away.

sorry if offends, but a few hours for a mate who is going through hell is nothing

Agreed. Don't let him be on his own. Just let him talk if he wants to, or sit in silence if he wants to. Best of luck, it will be hard for the both of you.

Anything the PH collective can do to help? Although I suppose having thousands of car nuts turning up at his house probably won't be the best thing right now...

Send my condolences.

I have to agree with the "drive over however far" opinions. A night without sleep for you is nothing to what he's going to be facing.

Condolences to your mate. I just can't comprehend how horrific it must have been for him. There, but for the grace of God and all that.

You have to think, if he chose to ring you, it was likely a plea for you to be there.

he needs you fella, go do what you need too

Seriously OP - get yourself over there.

The people who go - her family etc will be as fked up as him. He will need someone outside family.

Get your skates on.

Who's in your group of friends? Anyone closer? Ring around and ask, see if someone can get over there.
