Brill - I always tend to go into the woods for these NY rallies, but for this one I think maybe heading straight up to the showground for the 'Super special'?

It should be quite exciting in the dark I guess?

Is the stage at Pickering any good for spectators?

Anyone else fancy meeting up on Friday perhaps?

I'll be spectating on the Fri and Sat, based near Halifax if someone wants a lift.

Where do you fancy meeting?

I was hoping to make the trip up to Kielder, but suspect money will end up scuppering my plans. Gutted as it looks an awesome route this year.

We will be at Olivers Mount all day wrapped up considerably warmer than we were last year - so if you see people cooking in the back of a silver van that will probably be us.

Good luck Dave

I planned to spectate in Langdale Friday night and then again Saturday morning.

Rather that travel there and back twice, I was considering a night in the estate car (remember the RAC as it used to be travelling aroung GB in the 80's)?). My 14yr old is really up for it, I might regret it....I feel the bad back now just thinking about it !

Does anybody know what the possibilities are for loitering in Langdale; if you know what I mean

If I have my big Audi on the road by then - then you know I might just do that. Watch the Pickering stage, then park up somewhere, some camp food, maybe a couple of tinnies, kip in the boot, then up at the crack of dawn...

Hm... Tempting...

They will be fine with it - the guys that look after these stages are usually really decent blokes. There will prob be a few about in the area doing the same - If you havent got one already get one of those cheap gas stoves and a few supplies to keep you fed and warm .. leave the window down on the car to let out the condensation or you will sweat like hell and then freeze all the following day ( bear ghrylls survival tips !)

The crowds aren't what you would call immense and the shots are fairly simple to achieve

If you go to a stage like Langdale, wonder about until you find a nice vantage point (we got some corkers at the woodyard/quarry in 07) and happy snapping!

Here's a couple to whet your whistle biggrin

Alex you should definitely do it, its a good day out.

The 'Super special' stages at Pickering are good as you get a godo view of the cars and can also usually wander about the service area and soak in some rally atmosphere. You can usually keep tags on the timings and leader boards when you are at the service park.

You can contrast that with going out onto the forest stages for a look. Park up on a Forest road, put your boots on and follow the arrows - there are other people but generally not what you'd call 'crowds'.

Your free to wander around (within the realms of whats safe and not stupid of course - above course level, not on the outside of bends etc) and walk into the course, get some good spots for some photos.

Which reminds me - for the past ocuple of Rallies I've been into Dalby at the bottom of the Forest.

Is the Langdale stage further North? Out the top end of the Forest drive?

Ther problem I have with Dalby is that its so densely wooded you only get to see a limited amount in some places.

Are there any sections on the Langdale stage where it is open Moorland? My favourite rally to spectate is the Grizedale/Coppermines where you can see the cars coming over the tops for miles and miles - much better 'bang for your buck'.

Dave? Anyone?

Did you trade in the Mini yet Alex?

Hmm dodgey one about the open moorland as Langdale goes straight over filingdales but the part of the stage they use this time doesn't. From memory, the bits used are all pretty much in the wooded areas.

Langdale is further north than Dalby, right past the end of the forest drive or accessed through Hackness and I'm not sure where the spectator areas will be. Definately recommended though but you could try Harwood Dale as an alternative.

On the web page it says to ' try hovering the mouse over the location labels' to get more detail.
Not so for me, no more detail.
Anybody else done any better ?

What I am after are the map refs for entry to the Langley and Harwood stages.
Need to get camp Setch planned as the excitement grows.

i need to try and find time to do this i think. will have to look into it some more.

I sold the mini a week after that last run out we did and bought a honda s2000 the day after. not really gelling with it though so will be going next spring and try and find something else.

Sketch.

If you hang about a bit, they will publish the map refs to the car parks in the speccy info section. There's a thread on the RAC forum that refers.

IC

Your S2000 would make an ideal donor car for an Escort. Both Yuk Hodgson and Mad Mick Jones had S2000s under their cars on last year's event. You know you want to!!!
