Fuel Pressure Valve

Having visited Fords they told me this is a fuel pressure valve.Can someone explain the purpose of this and how it is fitted in the fuel system.Steve Heaths manual doesn't even mention it! I beleive one end is vented back to the tank but where does the other pipe go, there is an electrical connection also but I',ve managed to find that in my Loom. Two pictures posted one of the item and the second of directional arrows on the pipe connections.

Doesn't look like a pressure valve to me - maybe a purge valve to do with the emissions?
Thats a guess though.
Where is it on your car? At the back near the fuel filler or under the bonnet?

I assume your car is a cat. model since you have this part. On a cat. car the fuel system is closed. When the engine is off (valve cloesd) the fumes from the tank is hold in the carbon canister (located in the trunc, left side) and when you start the engine the valve opens and the fumes are sucked into the cylinders via the manifold.

If you remove this part make sure that the tank has some kind of ventilation otherwise the tank can scrimp because of underpressure.

The part is under the bonnet just below and to the left of the windscreen washer bottle.Bought the car as a de cat.There is a pipe comming from the rear of the car it was ajoined via a tie wrap to the fuel pipe running to the fuel rail.One end of this pressure valve is attached to this spare pipe but where does the other pipe connection on the valve go???
If it is a de cat, do I need this part and what do I do with this spare fuel pipe??

Is the carbon canister still in the trunc?

If the valve works I would keep it, it's not good for the environment with gasoline fumes as you know. You don't win anything by removing it.

I found a picture in my work shop manual that shows how the tank ventilation is done.



1. Carbon canister
2. Evacuation valve (your valve)
3. Plenum
4. Crankcase ventilation valve
5. Air cleaner
6. EEC IV
7. Fuel tank
8. Throttle valve

The valve is controlled from the ECU. It is switched on/off with a frequense of 10Hz with a variable duty cycle. The duty cycle goes from 0% to 100% (open). The valve is opened when the throttle is not closed and when the ECU works normal.

I apologize for my translation but the book is translated from English into a non-accurate Swedish, which I then try to translate back into English (Swenglish)

I do have this diagram but I do beleive that this valve is not shown on this PDF file, I might be wrong and going completly bonkers,please point it out to me if you can see it.

Item 22 is shown as fuel pressure regulator

I think it's nr 35 which is a roll-over valve and could have been translated as evacuating (evakuerings) valve. But then again the lay-out to and from this valve of the PDF and the Picture don't match ???

Han That was my first thought but '35' is next to the carbon canister nut in the engine bay.

Item 35 is #8 in my work shop manual (throttle valve) and you can se it in my picture just above the carbon canister. The drawing in the S-series Parts Catalogue is not complete.

Tozerman to the rescue, as you can see from the pics below it is mounted on the near side of the engine bay just above the rocker cover, one pipe goes to the rear of the car and the other goes to the off side rocker cover.

so it looks that item 2 is the valve in the engine bay according tozerman's pictures

but where is the canister located ? In Sighck's workshop manual picture the canister is in the engine bay and in Sighck's boot picture there is a canister in the boot ?? Or is it the typical "every TVR is unique" ?

My carbon cannister is also in the boot.

My work shop manual is for Ford (Ford original). I put the picture in this topic only to show how the tank ventilation system works because TVR hasn't changed anything except the location of the carbon canister. The canister is moved from the engine bay to the boot.
