Looks like it could be a double blow this week - hopefully they will at least stay as an engine provider...

Interesting, but doubt they will go as im sure Brundle mentioned that Kubica has signed a contract to race for them in 2010.

If they've called an emergency extraordinary meeting, you kinda get the feeling that the decision has already been made. No Flav there to fly the flag for F1, and Ghosn has said many times before, that he thinks F1 is a waste of money.

They could just be thinking of re-branding to Nissan though, now there's no other Japanese representation!

They will jump. The Kubica contract will be peanuts, pay him walk away. The Team principles are not even to be allowed to speak at the meeting.

Not being funny but when did manufacturers become such a bunch of babies and quitters?

They're not winning so they throw their toys out of the pram and stomp off, a number of my mates who don't really follow F1 think it's both hilarious and pretty pathetic.

It makes motorsport look pretty stupid.

I think at worst it'll be a privateer team with Renault engines

when did they start, as soon as the first manufacturer entered... I never understood Bernies plan to get more and more manufactures involved, as historically as all having manufacturers involved does it push up the budgets and push out the private teams. Then the going gets tough and the manuf teams all leave, and you end up with a depleted field. Its happened so many times across so many disciplines you'd have thought someone would have twigged it by now..


much better to have private teams i.e. Williams maybe backed by a manuf for engines, then if manuf pulls out team just buys a different motor, and looks elsewhere for sponsorship..

Private teams are in it to race and make money from racing, manufs are just in it for a bit of marketing, and marketing budgets and plans soon change !!!!

i reckon renault will walk away from f1 this week. which, along with loosing bmw & toyota is not good for f1. is it?

I'd love to see all the teams walk and leave that fking little drawf to have a all Ferrari championship. And all the other teams to start a new championship.

I think Kubica may have his eye on a Ferrari seat within a year or two, alongside Teflonso.

Earlier today the BBC website was saying that the Renault decision would not be made public today because they didn't want it to over shadow their announcement, on Thursday, about some sort of eco car.

BBC website now has no mention of it:

Well , if the defections continue , winning the F1 Championship against such little competition would be like a US invasion of Easter Island. Successful no doubt, but not a real test of the winner.
