Thought I'd share these with you all - my 1971 Fulvia S2 coupe back in the day. Rebuilt by Barry Waterhouse (personally) when he ran Lanciana (before he set up ItalTune).

Wish I still had her, and in that condition smokin

Nice.I knew Barry reasonably well through owning several Lancias and my brother worked for him whilst at Uni in London. Top chap, knew his onions and sadly missed.

Great cars - I've owned three and am restoring one at the moment. I think you need to get another biggrin

Do you know if it still exists - I saw one on Ebay recently with a similar sunroof (most had the fabric one)but cannot remember the reg.

Hi Jamie, Yes, original Lancia Rosso York (maroon). The gold was additional and the finish was perfection! Barry added the gold onto the Rosso before the clear topcoat so the end result was no seams at all.

Hi NC, yes Barry is sadly missed. I met up with him at a Goodwood Lancia track day a couple of years ago (after many years) and he recalled all of the antics we Lancianisti's used to get up to on the track, in perfect detail. He even asked me to email him some paperwork I had from the old days, to, was it Corsica or Cyprus where he retired? Little did I know he was terminally ill!

When did your brother work for Barry? I ask as I knew many of his (Lanciana) staff - I was there so much that we often socialised down the wine bar (wine - Barry's forte!).

Yes, I do toy over another Fulvia (or Flaminia coupe) sometimes - I doubt my one still exists as, last I saw of it was when it, it was stipped down for track use by said Mr. Waterhouse!

Re the glass sunroof (all the rage in the 80s) - I was very brave taking it to a specialist in Ladbroke Grove to cut a hole in the roof eek Luckily it came out perfect.

Good luck with your project - photos when ready please.

great car - i had one in that colour for 5 years 1985-1990.
bought it for £1100 from an auctioneer at bca tewkesbury where i'd gone to buy a car for the summer (as a student) and fell in love with the fulvia as soon as i saw it.after finding out who owned it and a bit of persuasion he agreeed to sell it and i ended up keeping her 5 years and about 50k miles.

the interior was changed to a dark red cloth(!) - sorry - and she had a spray and lots and lots of welding inc a rebuilt subframe from a donor blue car.

i loved that car and still miss it.she was tdm 50r originally then i had a cheap private plate and she went back to an r reg when i sold her for about £500 to a couple of blokes from london who said they were going to restore her.

so if anyone has a 1976 fulvia with the rare alloys and some bits ( petrol filler area, front slam panel, half a wing and half front suspension leg )in light blue let me know as its probably mine.

My brother, Alex worked there for about 3 years in the early '90's when it was Evo Engineering (in the days when Pete Ward worked there), but kept in close touch with Barry and would often stay at his when in London. Funnily enough I was in correspondence with Barry right up to the end as well, for it was at this time that I bought the car I am restoring. I finally bought it (in Italy) the weekend before he passed way.

Right Gompo. I think I let it go around '87 so that would make sense. Sadly, it probably became ItalTune spares! And why did I get rid of a near-perfect "future classic"? I went over to the plastic side - TVR with a (rare) 2+2 Tasmin - sounds crazy now! I must dig out some photos...

AMG, I love the Starskey and Hutch stylee side paint. I did one many years ago in sky blue over black. Also a series 2!
nc107, did that Fanalone take some finding? There must be a great demand for them over the channel.
I came so close to buying one here in the UK in about '83. Just couldn't raise the extra £500 from what I had to buy it.
Got a nice series 2 HF instead which unfortunately burnt a neat hole in the number 2 piston. The previous owner for some strange reason had removed the air filter (Thank you John Murray- not!) causing it to run too hot.
Barry helped me with a replacement piston, rings and good advice.
Shame that the new Fulvia isn't being built.

I was looking for about two years. During that time two came up in the UK (one rally prepped car and a restoration project, that used to belong to Bruce Dickenson of Iron Maiden) neither that I got then this came up in Venice,I went to see it then lorry back to Derby. I know of only one Fanalone that has changed hands in the UK in the last two years, but there are always a few for sale in Europe.Prices are high though - £40K+ for good ones.

Guys, excuse my ignorance here but in all my Fulvia years, and in the hundreds of original Lancia documents, manuals and books I had, I never recall seeing anything about "Fanalone" - what is it please? scratchchin

The Fanalone was officially listed as the Series 1 1.6HF. It was the homologation car for the rally cars that won the European rally championship. As such it is very different to the other Series 1 cars, having a 1600 engine (not 1300), a 5 speed gearbox and negative camber front suspension (amongst other things). It was effectively productionised for the Series 2 1600HF. 1258 were built. Although similar to the S2 1600 they have rather a different appeal, being more stripped out racer with all kinds of subtle differences in the engine assembly. Being the homologation model (of a very successful rally car) they fetch a substantial premium (between 2 - 3 times).

The distinctive element of the design is the large (7") inner lights. It is to this that the street name Fanolone refers. Literally translated it means "Big Eyes"; the S2 cars were known as Fanalini ("Little Eyes").

Although on Saturday evening in Rome Fanalone has a rather different meaning smile
