Not entirely sure how the SC setup works, but I would imagine, when the throttle is shut, there is still some presure left in the intake and this may blow back over the AFM causing a slight over fueling for a few seconds, thus producing flames.

Very common cause on jap turbo vehicles smile On over run on my 200sx with 400bhp, if everything was hot enough, 3 foot flames werent uncommon on track biggrin

The exhaust has to be hot enough and fuel present!

You can cheat and put a spark plug in the exhaust, hence the max power reference tongue out

yep. my skyline used to flame like a bitch (was running very rich) after i put a downpipe on it and decatted it.

every time i changed gear giving it some, she used to spit huge yellow ones (and i mean huge!!) used to light up dual carrige ways at night!!

wasnt brilliant for performance or fuel consumption but it was good fun.

it just excess fuel igniting on the hot exhaust..........you can do it with n/a cars if you remove the cats i beleive im sure they run rich enough at the top end

I bought a non running Nissan Pulasr GTIR and it has the after burner kit fitted.
Very Chavy i know.

There is a coil in the boot and a spark plug in the tail pipe.

I think it cuts the engine ignition for a fraction of a second so unburnt fuel goes through the exhaust which is then burnt at the tail pipe.

I have never tried it yet as the car is still non running but i am sure it will be one of the first things i do when i get it running.

I am told by the last owner that the flame was around 1 to 2 feet long. WOW!

I also remember being behind an Escort Cosworth on the M6 at night and it spat some flames out. I thought it looked brilliant. To me its only connected to powerful cars.

I think Ringram will confirm there is a thing called DFCO in EFILive. I believe it shuts the fuel off when you close the throttle to help fuel consumption. If it's disabled you end up with unburned fuel which then ignites in the exhaust. Ruins your cats and fuel consumption though.

In your opinion. I've never seen a boy racer in a Monaro blowing flames out of the arse end.
