a8 gearbox oil change
Discussion
hiya all,
got a price off audi main dealer to
change the oil, filter,sump gasket,
with labour it comes to £550.
they say it takes 10/11 litres of oil
at 24.00 a litre,
i asked what type of oil it was , they said it was
atf green,
does that ring a bell with anyone [tame tech]
labour is £150,
sounds dear to me,
the box is hanging on to a couple of gears under 40mph
4th and 5th,when in drive,
it can be moved up wiht the paddles ok and down,
sometimes when you come to a stop, theres a slight jerk
with selection.
using the paddles a lot more lately,
there are no noises,
will the new oil help ? 95,000mls 53 reg
ta all,, billy

That is the price of the oil. Its mental but that is correct.
Think we charge one hours labout so £150 is a tad steep.
I would have called it blue not green, but the point is its not the cheaper red stuff of old, there was a time when every auto in the world would use ATF dextron II or III.
When auto box's, (and by that I mean propper torque converter ones, not multi or DSG) start getting slightly harsh shifts or banging into fist at juction or generally not being as smooth as there were, but not actually showing any electrical faults, the oil and filter or stainer as some people call it, is the first thing to do.
The problem is, because the oil is so expensive, its not a cheap thing to do, But despite the cost, it is a "well lets do an oil change and see if it will improve first" sort of thing, rather than an "oil and filter change will fix that for definate" sort of thing.

ta for that tame tech,
do you think i should dispute the labour time,,
i was looking at the comp screen at the same time as the
man with the mouse and it did say green,
is that rite,
the red stuff i do remember with a 68 jag 420, but just got on with it,
when it played up, you put some in it, borgwarner box,,
if you put it in sport mode is 6th gear ommited,
thats what comes up in the dash,
ta, billy
